Zermatt snow report 18.12.2012

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Zermatt

At the top of the Zermatt ski area there is 190cm of snow with 80cm in the village. It has been snowing today with 3cm falling and the snow forecast looks promising for the next three days. A weather front with heavy snowfall remains within the area, however this is interrupted with bright sunshine to make the most of the fresh powder. Wednesday looks to be a fantastic day to make the most of the current powder, before Thursday and Friday see the return of snow, with potentially another 15cm due. Snow looks to be falling at its heaviest during the evenings, promising for better visibility during prime ski time.

There are 300 of the 360 runs open and 19 of the 54 lifts also operating at the moment.

Ski conditions currently are unprecedented for this time of the season. Heavy snow continues overnight with light snow and bright sunshine during the day. Piste conditions are fantastic, with empty wide open runs allowing you to enjoy carefree skiing in perfect conditions. Snow during the day allows runs to remain fresh and not “skiied out”, whilst allowing normally more difficult runs to become accessible to those less experienced. For when the weather looks to close in, RED 4 and BLUE 7 over at Sunegga are ideal runs to use, whilst guests are particularly enjoying RED 29, RED 35 and BLUE 45 on Ski Hosting tours.

With Christmas only a week away, Zermatt is full of festive spirit as locals and guests alike gear themselves for the next week of celebrations. Be sure to make the most of the seasonal après Ski, sampling Gluwein in one of the outside bars after a hard day on the pistes. For those wanting to stay out slightly later, be sure to check out the Ipod battle at Cable Car bar on 20/12/2012, as Seasonnaires, Ski Instructors and locals go head to head to prove who has the best music taste!
