Zermatt Snow Report, 09 Apr 2010

ZermattAt the top of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise the snow base is 154cm deep with 92% of runs are open.

The main runs are all open, including the links to Cervinia. Some of the yellow off-piste itinerary runs remain closed (though the long and scenic yellow run ‘Marmotte’ from the top of Rothorn Paradise to Tufteren has been opened) and the blue run ‘Moos’  into  the top of the village is closed.

Conditions on the pistes are good, particularly at altitude and a large proportion of the ski area in Zermatt is at altitude.  In the  afternoon the snow on the lower slopes is becoming rather  soft.

Friday and Saturday are forecast to be sunny and clear. Cloud is expected to build on Sunday with the possibility of some light snow showers in the evening and overnight into Monday. Temperatures remain just below freezing at the mid station but are above freezing (maximum 7C) during the day in the village.  Light winds will ensure that the links to Cervinia will remain open.

The ‘Zermatt Unplugged’ event runs from 13th to 17th April, the headline acts this year being Lionel Ritchie and Billy Idol. A whole spectrum of musical styles is on offer with many other talented acts performing during the week.
