Zermatt ski report 18.01.2013

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Zermatt

There is 180cm of snow at the top of the Zermatt ski area and 60cm in resort. The last snowfall was yesterday with a good amount of snow falling.

154km of pistes are open today and there are 21 of the 54 Zermatt lifts open.

Over the next 3-5 days Zermatt sees the return of heavy snow, with up to 30cm forecast for mid level on the mountain over the weekend. The snow fails to relent fully over the start of next week; however current forecasts suggest only light snow with scattered outbreaks of sunshine. Zermatts fantastic piste conditions will be a delight in powder snow.  Temperatures are set to remain very low with an average temperature of -15. However winds remain minimal, ensuring temperatures do not feel much lower than this.

Ski conditions in Zermatt are currently superb. Heavy snow at the end of last week, combined with light top ups of snow and low temperatures has kept snow fresh throughout the resort. Powder has remained on some of the more untouched reds and blues, and careful grooming has ensured pistes remain a delight to ski throughout the day. Sunnegga is excellent throughout the day, but be sure to make the most of it when temperatures and visibility drops, with trees offering protection from any inclement weather.

This week sees the return of the Scottish open air curling tournament, a competition that has taken place every year since 1930. If curling isn’t your thing, but want to make the most of your stay external to skiing or boarding, check out Snowshoe hikes taking place every Friday, offering excellent views and offering fantastic new perspectives on Zermatt
