Val Thorens snow report 29.01.2013

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Val Thorens.

There is 250cm of snow at the top of the Val Thorens ski area with 130cm in resort. There was a light dusting of 5cm of fresh snow yesterday.

There are 79 of the 80 runs open here in Val Thorens with all 30 ski lifts open.

After a week of sunshine and very little new snow, it was a huge delight to welcome 15 cm of fresh snowfall yesterday in Val Thorens making it 250 cm at the top peak. The sheer amount of snowfall throughout the morning meant the pistes resembled a powder haven and off piste skiing conditions have been made incredible. Piste bashers have been working furiously throughout the night to deliver smooth conditions across the slopes today.

Conditions couldn’t get any more perfect with sunshine predicted throughout Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday bringing another dusting of snow to the village. Temperatures will be mild over the next few days, rarely dipping below -8 degrees.

A large proportion of the village will be taking part in a giant snowball fight in the Place de Caron on Wednesday from 2pm where snowballs will be generated by a machine and an obstacle course constructed. In the same place on Friday, families can enjoy a fun filled day where activities will be staged for children with free hot chocolate and brioche for all to enjoy.
