Val d Isere Snow Report, 18 Feb 2011

Val d'IsèreSnow depth at the top of the ski area:   120cm of snow on the upper slopes

Snow depth in resort:                                   50cm

It was nice to see something other than the sun in the sky, but I’m glad the clouds are gone! Yesterday my colleague Paddy and I decided to hit the highest parts of the Espace Killy that we could feasibly get to in search of powder… we didn’t actually have to go that far and it wasn’t long before we were bouncing around in powder! The rest of the mountain remains skiable with the lighter snowfalls on the lower slopes giving them a bit of a facelift and making the work of difference to how the skis handle on the pistes. After yesterdays epic adventures I’m eager to get out on the mountain again, especially now the sun is flooding the area with bright light!

And the sun will continue to shine throughout today and tomorrow, with late Friday afternoon becoming overcast indicating that more snow is due over the weekend with light showers on Saturday and Sunday.

So many happy people! Like I said on Tuesday, it’s peak season and the town is buzzing and Val d’Isere has not disappointed the masses and has lived up to it’s reputation of being a world class resort with numerous events throughout the week. Tuesday witnessed the mighty ESF doing their much renowned torch lit descent of the face amongst other events.
