Val d Isere Snow Report, 04 Jan 2011

Val d'IsèreSnow – top of ski area:   122cm

Snow depth in resort:   44cm

The sun is never ending here in Val! It’s another beautiful day and the sun is splitting the mountains, yet the town is still under a snowy blanket.

And despite the epic conditions on the upper and lower slopes, the snow cannons are on and blasting snow over the pistes to establish an even thicker base that will help the season last well into the spring. Everything from the Glacier pistes to the lower pistes are a pleasure to ride, and with the sun out, you can stop at a mountain restaurant, sit back on the sun chairs and have a cooling beverage while you work on your tan!

That’s right, even more sun is due for today and tomorrow with a few clouds coming to play on Thursday to dust the pistes in fresh white stuff! And then the sun will be on his lonesome once again for Friday!

Cross Country Skiers…. and people who thinks it’s easy, clip in and sign up to the amateur ‘American style’ race! And my, this town loves any excuse to have a party; this week sees yet another ‘Nuit Rouge’, this time to celebrate the Russian New Year. There will be fireworks, musicians, ice sculpting and of course that all important vin chaud!!
