Val d’Isere snow report 01/02/2013

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Val d’Isere.

There is 278cm of snow at the top of the Val d’Isere ski area with 123cm in resort. It is currently snowing in resort so this will only increase.

96% of the runs are open with 45 of the 46 Val d’Isere ski lifts open.

Balmy temperatures earlier in the week have meant that altitude has been one’s friend when searching out the best snow, but from the beginning of February we’re looking at -10C and below, ideal for keeping skiing conditions at their optimum.

Rumours abound, is it 42cm of snow we’re expecting this weekend, or 55? Only 2cm? No, that can’t be right… Ah, the forecast has changed again and now we’re back up to 31cm of the white stuff to be on the ground by the end of play today – how exciting! As long as the monkey sitting at the computer at the meteorology office is keeping his (thus far random yet accurate) predictions correct, then we really are a happy bunch of seasonnaires.

Sunny mornings followed by evening snow showers, this really is a delightful snow-cycle we’re more than happy to maintain until the end of April. In the meantime, for those snowier days, treat yourself and indulge in a gorgeous handmade hot chocolate from the Blizzard hotel – the perfect place for watching the snowflakes fall outside, tucked up with a book next to a roaring fire.
