Val d Isere Snow Report, 01 Feb 2011

Val d'IsèreSnow depth at top of ski area:     120cm of snow on the upper slopes

Snow depth in resort:                       50cm

I love a good powder day! I finished my work nice an early yesterday which afforded me a few hours on the piste, when that happens I normally head to the Palafour lift in Tignes for the excellent natural bumps and jumps by the side of the piste… but for some unexplained reason I decided to head up the Pissaillas Glacier! What a treat, it had snowed heavily! I met two old men of the mountain on the Vallon de l’Iseren gondola who took it upon themselves to show me the best off-piste Val has to offer, and despite the short hike at the end of each run, I had an epic day!

My flatmate braved the Sache black run yesterday, and said only 15% needed some technical skills…. quite surprising seeing as it has been dubbed ‘the sketchiest black run in Europe’ by one of our barmen!

While Mister Gumpy’s predictions of a massive dump weren’t necessarily true for the Espace Killy, as i said, the Pissaillas Glacier had a massive dump which suited me just fine! The rest of the Killy area was bright and sunny, and the sun is set to stay for the next few days! All this sun makes me want to sit outside mountain restaurants with a refreshing beverage!

Speaking of refreshing beverages, I’m yet to bump into Cheryl Cole, but apparently she was living it up at the Folie Douce yesterday! I bet Kelly Starlight was loving it, despite not having all the attention on him for once… his singing and entertaining still out does Cheryl’s any day!!
