Solden Snow Report 19/03/2013
Here is the latest snow report from our team in Solden
There is 272cm of snow at the top of the Solden ski area with 10cm of snow in resort. The last snowfall was on today with around 18cm falling.
There are 68% of pistes open in the Solden ski area with 20 out of 35 ski lifts open.
The snow is still lingering today with some light snow showers, but there will be some intermittent sunny spells. The snow will set back in tomorrow – being heaviest in the afternoon and overnight with around 9cm forecast to fall at the top of the ski area. By Thursday morning the clouds will have eased off to bring bright sunshine…but the clouds will be still be lingering as there are some snow showers forecast Thursday afternoon and into the evening, and continuing into Friday. Temperatures are staying low with a minimum of minus 13/14 on the glacier and a maximum of 1 degree Celsius down in town. Wind will generally be light – only a little blustery in the mornings.
With all the fresh snow that fell yesterday, the snow quality on the slopes will be idyllic – even on the lower slopes going down into town which were getting icy beforehand!! Up on the top of the ski area is where you’ll find the most powder, but everywhere this morning is looking fluffy! Visibility was not the best first thing this morning with low cloud – but it is lifting and is looking to clear up. Temperatures are staying cold which is good news for the snow! And the resort is looking more wintry, instead of just the ‘landing strips’ of the home runs, as it has been the past week!
On the Giggijoch ski area, BMW have set up a speed trap and a Slalom course where you can record your times and speeds! If you register online, then you can collect badges for every run you do, and then every month (if you’ve earned at least 5 badges) you can enter in a draw to win a pair of limited edition K2 BMW powder skis – so register now to be in with a chance! At the end of the season, if you’ve collected at least 15 badges, then you could even have the chance to win a BMW X1 and the participant with the most badges in one week could even win a BMW ice driver training course in Sweden!! So it’s definitely worth giving it a go – you never know!!
