Obergurgl Snow Report, 30 Mar 2010

SkierThere is a base of 145cm of snow at the highest ski point on the Festkogl and 37cm on the lower resort slopes.

Being the highest resort in Austria is certainly beneficial at this time of year and Obergurgl boasts an enviable snow record, even with spring approaching. The snow at the top of the mountain is nothing short of excellent and you can easily ski all the way back to resort level.

Moreover, with the significant fresh snowfall and colder temperatures predicted for the middle of this week, ski conditions will keep improving, especially for those arriving in the following weeks.

One of the best runs to ski in the resort is red run 7, which also happens to be one of the longest runs the resort has to offer. This run has something for everyone, from a wide, steep start to a mogul field in the centre…one of the best runs to try out with fresh powder on the ground!

Temperatures today promise to be mild with snowfall starting in the afternoon and around 5 centimetres of snow expected to fall overnight. Winds look to be fairly strong today but these should quickly ease off by tomorrow morning. Wednesday is expected to be clear and sunny in the morning, with more snow forecast to fall as the evening approaches. The heaviest snow should fall on Thursday morning, with around 15 centimetres of snow expected throughout the day and temperatures dropping to a chilly minus 15 degrees Celcius.

If you always wanted to try something just a little bit different, why not have a shot at cross country skiing? Obergurgl and Hochgurgl offer 12 kilometres of cross country skiing runs in total, including just over a kilometre of floodlit slope. Try out the 3 kilometre training run in Obergurgl and work your way up to the 9 kilometres of runs in Obergurgl and Hochgurgl…it’s something you’ve got to try once!
