Obergurgl snow report 18.12.2012

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Obergurgl

The top of the Obergurgl ski area is resplendent in snow with 190cm and 80cm in resort. There has already been 5cm snowfall today with light snowfalls predicted for the next 3 days.

79% of the lifts are open and 19 of the 21 lifts are open and servicing the Obergurgl pistes.

A mixture of sunny spells and light snow over the next couple of days leading into a snowy period over Friday and into Saturday. Wednesday shows the most sun, but also the coolest temperature with a pretty chilly wind chill factor  but the rest of the week is looking between 0 and -10 degrees. Southerly light breezes, so any falling snow should be sill pleasant to ski in.

Well the forecast is only for light snow today but we’ve already had about 5cm this morning! A glorious first morning yesterday – sun, nice cool temperatures and some fabulous slopes made for a great first day. The piste bashers have been working hard over night (you can see them from our ski Total Chalet, Chalet Christophorus, sailing by about 20 meters from the windows in the evening. What a sight! It’s good to see them and know that the runs are going to be tip top for the morning. Both Hochgurgl has shared int eh new snow too, so our second hosting this week will head over there. At the moment it’s hard to choose which words to use to describe the snow as it is just that good! It’s smooth with none of those pesky icy areas (which if you are like me you’ll also hate!). The toboggan run is also up and running in Hochgurgl with Thursdays being the night toboggan evening – please bring your helmet if you are thinking about going on it!

Take 2 of the Ski Show tonight! I’m really hoping I can report its amazing-ness on Friday – the snow, temperature and winds are being much kinder today so we’re currently all set for this evening. As today is the chalet staff day off everyone is heading into town for a bite to eat this evening – for pizza lovers there are some tasty treats to be had in Obergurgl, most pizzerias have the stone bake ovens for pizzas. My personal favourite is the Diavolo – with a bit of chili oil to add to the spicyness! Lots of traditional Tyrolean restaurants too – I’ve seen knuckles of pork on several menus…mmmm…delicious! We’l. be speaking with everyone once you arrive into Obergurgl on Sunday and Monday so we can book you into restaurants. Of course next week Tuesday we’ll be having something a little different, as it’s Christmas! I’ve got the Christmas tunes on already!
