Obergurgl snow report 11.12.2012

The latest snow report from our team in Obergurgl

With 180cm of snow at the top of the pistes and a further 73cm in resort our early season guests are being spoilt by excellent snow levels. There was even a further 25cm that came down yesterday!

We’re due a let up in the clouds on Wednesday and Thursday where the sun is going to brighten our days and make for some amazing skiing. A trip to the Top Mountain Star hut is a must in order to wave to our friends over in the Dolomites. OR perhaps the Hohe Mut Alm where on a sunny day you can see a staggering 21 peaks, all at more than 3000m each!

Temperatures are remaining cool and the south easterly wind we have been having is slowly changing to north easterly; definitely bring that extra layer and a snood to keep you warm!

100% of the runs are open here in Obergurgl and 38/51 of the lifts are open.

What an absolutely amazing start to the season. We couldn’t believe it when we arrived – there was a great base to the mountain and it has just got better and better.

For powder fiends there is plenty of pow up at the top, but perhaps take a guide out with you to help you make the most out of it whilst it’s still so fresh. The piste bashers are out grooming the slopes ready for the morning so the early birds are getting some great skiing in. The start of the week saw some wonderful quiet skiing over in Hochgurgl on the plentiful wide blue runs – great for getting your ski legs back! So far, no one’s been disappointed this week!

Tonight brings the ski show up at the top of the Festkogelbahn; it’s a new one this year so the ski school is super excited and so are we. Follow this with night skiing down the long, sweeping blue number 6 to finish off your evening and it is a night well done! Tonight is the chalet staff night off so our guests have all gone out as one big group – it seems like they are firm friends already! They are taking a stroll into town to Pic Nic and rumour has it they are going to Josl Keller afterwards for a bit of a boogie…
