Obergurgl Snow Report, 09 Apr 2010

SkierAt the highest point in Obergurgl, Festkogl, there is a snow base of145cm and on the lower runs there is 35cm.

The sun is shining, the skies are blue and it really is a beautiful day to be in the Austrian Alps! All runs are currently open and, while the snow at the bottom of the mountain is becoming a bit soft in the heat, some excellent snow and piste conditions can still be found from the mid-level of the resort upwards. This week really is the perfect time (amid skiing!) to sit on the deck of one of Obergurgl’s many mountain huts. enjoy the sunshine and the spectacular views!

The weather promises to be very warm today, with the freezing level hovering around 2500 metres for most of the day. This warm weather should continue into Saturday morning, with temperatures gradually falling throughout the day and light snow expected by early evening. Light snow showers should continue through Sunday and into the beginning of next week, with progressively colder temperatures forecast in resort. Wind speeds should remain light throughout the whole week.

If you only visit one place during your holiday to Obergurgl, make sure that place is to Top Mountain Star. Located at the top of the Hochgurgl ski area, the Top Mountain Star is the highest point in the whole resort at 3082 metres. From this height, the views are quite simply breathtaking. The Top Mountain Star is a panoramic bar and restaurant, serving hot chocolates, alcoholic drinks and light meals and you simply could not ask for a better location. On a clear day, you can see right across the Italian border to the Dolomites…make sure this is one experience you don’t miss out on!
