Meribel Snow Report 15/12/2015
We’ve been out in resort now for almost a month and this week our first guests arrived to enjoy the early week of winter snow. With our last big fall of snow back at the end of November many of our guests were concerned their would be poor conditions, a lack of pistes open and some even worried they wouldn’t ski at all.
Well they needn’t have feared as after their first day out on the slopes it was all smiles! On our evening visits we were all pleased to hear that they’d had a great day out. The mornings being particularly pleasant and with the sun beaming down throughout the day it made for a wonderful days skiing. We are blessed in Méribel to have a lot of piste cannons throughout the resort and so even though on the drive up to resort from the valley there are many green hills to be seen the piste bashing team have done a tremendous job in getting the ski area ready for the early season guests.
Being the lower of the main resorts in The Three Valleys Méribel does have more runs closed than in Courchevel and Val Thorens but with twenty open trails and fifteen lifts available there’s still a wide area to enjoy. Many green runs, blues and reds are all open and the conditions up higher in the resort are particularly good for the time of year. For those staying in Méribel it’s also the ideal location to take advantage of a full area Three Valleys lift pass as it’s only a couple of ski lifts up to the peaks taking you down into Courchevel and Val Thorens.
The snow conditions in the neighbouring resorts are even better with them being higher in altitude and with even more open trails and lifts we can assure you you’ll have a great week exploring the Three Valleys! In total across The Three Valleys there are 145 open runs and 94 open lifts which is great considering the Winter has only just arrived, snow depths range from 55cm up on the higher slopes and 15-20cm down in the lowest valleys. The conditions for off piste skiing in Méribel aren’t yet that favourable but when up on the higher runs across the valleys the eagle eyed will spot some good snow to take advantage of.
Forecast: The piste-side bars have all opened for business and with the current forecast of sunny blue skies it’s a great time to ski and enjoy a lunch or drink on the piste. Snow forecasts are still changing daily but there has been talk of some snow just before Christmas Day, we continue to keep our fingers crossed. So we look forward to welcoming you out to Méribel for the Christmas holidays and you can be assured you’ll have a great time up on the slopes!
