Avoriaz Snow Report, 12 Mar 2010

Couple SledgingThe snow reaches a depth of 210cm on the upper slopes of the Portes du Soleil and 165cm on the slopes local to our chalets in Avoriaz.

The ski conditions at the moment are good with plenty of snow on the pistes measuring over 2m deep at the top of resort and still over a meter and a half at resort level despite all of the sun we have been enjoying.

The large amount of snow and pristine conditions of the pistes means 100% of the ski area in Avoriaz is open at the moment with a huge amount on offer in the rest of the worlds biggest international ski area as well, an advanced skier would find it hard pushed to cover it all in a week.

For the free style skiers there is also a huge amount to explore with all the terrain parks, border cross and the super pipe open as well as larger jumps being built at the moment for the freestyle competition tomorrow in Avoriaz and Les Gets.

The snow forecast for today and the next three days is predicting clear skies up until Sunday afternoon when we are due to have some light snow which follows through till Monday night as well however it is only a dusting of 2cm’s of snow. Wind speeds are fairly average with speeds ranging from between 5-15km/h.

Temperatures on average over the next 3 days are between -4 and -9 during the day time and dropping as low as -19 Friday night, at night wind speeds are due to bring the temperature down as low as -25 at night as well.

This week in resort there is a ski rally around the Avoriaz ski area, as well as a freestyle ski competition sponsored by ‘Goretex’ for professional and amateur riders.
