Alpe d’Huez snow report 08.01.2013

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Alpe d’Huez.

There is 230cm of snow at the top of the Alpe d’Huez ski area with 117cm of snow in resort. The last snowfall was 4 inches on New Years day. The forecast is for sunshine and a dusting of powder on Thursday night.

There are 125 runs open with 36 of the 64 lifts open.

Goggle tans and hoody skiing are the order of the week with the sunshine we’ve been having. There’s still more than enough snow though, even on the lower slopes into and below the resort. Bashers have been moving powder onto the pistes to ensure there are no icy patches. The Sarenne is in particularly good condition at the moment, its height having protected the snow conditions.

The European skicross championships are taking place today and tomorrow. This is bringing the resort some very good skiers and the doctors some very good business.  The track will be left open for visitors to use after the competition.
