‘A Ski Totally Awesome Day out in Obergurgl’ – by resort representative Chris Laird

Obergurgl, lovingly known as the diamond of the alps, is one of the most notorious resorts for amazing weather and snow conditions. At this point in the season we are seeing some serious snowfall and Mother Nature is being very kind to us and letting us have it all over night, meaning we have perfect, bluebird skies each day!

Could it get any better I hear you ask? Quite frankly no, but on that odd occasion where Mother Nature is feeling a little jet lagged and gets night and day the wrong way round – what is there to do?
My suggestion would be to head over to Hochgurgl, and more specifically to Top Mountain Crosspoint – my favourite place in resort! For those who have never heard of it, the crosspoint is situated at the start of an incredibly famous driving road, the Timmlesjoch pass, which is of course the Holy Grail for Motor Bikers all over Europe. This makes it the perfect location for Europe’s highest motorcycle museum.

It is truly an incredible place, brimming with both Motorbikes and classic cars, and as a petrol head, I couldn’t think of a better place to spend an afternoon! There is a huge range of superbikes to explore – some dating back to 1882 and some from the modern day! There are Ferraris, Porches, Lotuses, Alfa Romeos and so many more…you could literally spend all day there (I did)!

The icing on the cake, however, are the driving simulators upstairs in the restaurant. These are free and fun to use, making them fantastic for both adults and children. There are countless circuits and modes to choose from – anything from race to drift – and cars ranging from a Mini Cooper to a Maclaren P1.

We have set a challenge for all Obergurgl guests: take on the Canada circuit time trial and if you beat my time, I will buy you a drink (photographic evidence of your time will be required)! 3 minutes and 12 seconds is the time to beat, but bear in mind the previous best was 3 minutes and 27 seconds, so take me on at your own peril!

Away from the combustion engine themed fun, crosspoint is one of the best places to go for lunch in Hochgurgl, with a mix of traditional Austrian cuisine and a more standard menu that suits everyone’s tastes. It really is a must see during your stay in Obergurgl.
