5 Reasons why you will LOVE Val d’Isère

Val d’Isère is arguably one of the most popular ski resorts in Europe and here is why…

1. Amazing skiing

It goes without saying, but the skiing is pretty awesome. Although Val d’Isère is known for being a technically difficult ski resort, there are many pistes that are easy flowing blues and greens that you can’t help but enjoy. In particular, Edelweiss on the Fornet side of the resort is beautiful and you can stop at the restaurant on the way down, to bask in the sunshine whilst eating one of the delicious goats cheese and honey bruschetta.

2. Tourist activities and markets

Finally, there is an incredible range of shops and tourist activities that are held weekly. Val d’Isère often close the main high street to host light shows and give out complimentary Vin Chaud, pretty nice huh? It’s easy to spend hours trawling through the ski shops, trying on the beautiful clothing and top of the range equipment. There is also a weekly Monday market held in the old town, where they sell anything from cheese (of course), meats, furs, clothing and more. I challenge anyone to get bored in this amazing metropolis in the snowy Alps!

3. The community & local restuarants

The locals form an instrumental part of the resort for guests and workers alike! This season we fell in love with Fabian and his mother who run the popular French restaurant, La Gourmandine. The food is incredible, particularly the foie gras burgers (YUM). They also, in my humble opinion, serve the best hot chocolate in the resort. Situated next to the Oympique and Solaise lift, the restaurant is in the ideal location to simply pop by for a drink or two, which normally leads to tartiflette and fondue (it even rhymes!).

4. Adrenaline, activities and unforgettable experiences

Most people don’t know just how many incredible experiences and apres events there are in Val d’Isère. You can go dog sledding, parapenting, Heli-skiing, ice diving and ice driving with the BMW ice track in resort. If you are an adrenaline junkie, there is no denying that there are a vast array of heart rate increasing activities.

5. Varied, but vibrant nightlife

  • Another obvious but very noteworthy reason to love Val is of course the crazy nightlife. We run a brilliant bar crawl in Val d’Isère on a Monday night and we take guests to our favourite and arguably the best bars in resort.
  • Moris pub is a great venue for a good quality pint and a chin wag with the lovely staff and it’s charming Manager Bobby. Next we have Saloon, they play classics and serve many potent house cocktails that are not for the faint hearted!
  • Underground bar, despite the British connotations is a French ran bar which is incredible fun, they have fur sofas and play dance and house music, what more could you want?
  • Further down the Main Street we visit Petit Danois, a traditional Scandinavian bar where you dance on the tables and do shots with the bar staff. Then last and of course not least we end our evening in the iconic Dicks Tea Bar. It needs no real introduction and can be described in two small words, crazy and fun.
