Zermatt snow report 28.12.2012
Here is the latest snow report from our team in Zermatt
There is 180cm of snow at the top of the Zermatt ski area and 50cm down in resort. The last snowfall saw 3cm fall yesterday.
140 of the 360 runs are open with 17 of the 54 lifts open.
Visibility will improve over the weekend as new snow overnight is broken up with sunshine in the mornings and early afternoons. Temperatures remain relatively high, with an average temperature of -8. Wind Chill lowers this temperature to around -17, so do not be misled by warm temperatures in resort.
Ski conditions remain excellent in Zermatt. Improved weather conditions have allowed more of the mountain to become accessible, whilst blue sky days have added to the enjoyment of skiing the area. A particular favourite of guests is RED 41, a beautiful long run into Furi from Rifelburg which offers skiers and boarders alike variety over an exceptional run. For great snow head to Schwarzee, with RED 55, 53 and 51 frequently being quiet and untouched, especially after good snowfall.
With New Years eve on Monday evening, Zermatt reaches its peak of party atmosphere. Guests have a tough choice to make, either opting for the multiple parties occurring in all the larger bars and clubs, or heading for the central square at midnight for a spectacular street party. If something a little earlier is of more interest to yourself, be sure to check out the many après bars located on the final ski run into town at Sunegga, or check out one of the many après stools popping up in the centre of town.
