Zermatt snow report 22.01.2013

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Zermatt

There is 190cm of snow at the top of the Zermatt ski area and 65cm in resort. There was 10cm of snow fall yesterday.

There are 340kms of pistes open with 45 of the 54 Zermatt lifts open.

Weather is set to improve over the next few days after snowfall over the weekend. With around 6cm of fresh snow landing on the ground over a 24 hour period, Tuesday sees improved visibility, with a mixture of potential snow fall conditions and clear sky periods. Temperatures are set to remain slightly higher than the week before, ranging from -4 all the way down to -20. Winds are set to remain low throughout the week.

Ski Conditions remain excellent in Zermatt. Whilst not seeing big snowfall last week, consistent little top ups combined with low temperatures have meant that pistes remain fresh and exciting to ski on throughout the day. With resort currently quiet, runs are skied less ensuring that not only do they remain in good condition, but skiers can maximise the space available to them to forget about the concerns of ski traffic! Runs guests are currently enjoying on Ski Hosting days are RED 15,9,4,7,1 and BLUE 7and 38.

This week sees the return of the Scottish open air curling tournament, a competition that has taken place every year since 1930. Be sure to check out some of the unique on piste bars and restaurants during your stay, with the quirky igloo bar on the Gornergrat side of the mountain, to the lively Hennu Stall bar and club down on the final run into town from Furi. Experiences like this don’t occur too often back in the UK, so be sure to make a “pit stop” whilst out on the mountain!
