Zermatt Snow Report, 02 March 2010

Skier in Zermatt90% of the runs in Zermatt are open including the links to Cervinia. It is mainly the fact that 6 of the 16 off piste yellow itinerary runs are closed which account for most of the closures.

Snow conditions are good with 134cm at the top of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise

53 /55 lifts are open in resort (only two of the short lifts on the glacier used for summer skiing are closed).

Snow conditions are superb!  There was more fresh snow on Sunday which topped up what were already very good conditions on the pistes.  Off piste conditions are still a little variable but there are areas of wind blown snow, particularly at the Stockhorn/Triftji  region, which should provide more than just a little interest to those looking for powder.

Tuesday and Wednesday are both due to start brightly with some cloud but then are forecast to cloud over in the afternoon and evening with the possibility of a sprinkling of snow. Thursday will see slightly heavier cloud with some light snow predicted during the day. Temperatures will be slightly colder than the milder last few days, with daytime temperatures of between -6C and -9C

With the first Zermatt pub crawl of the season taking place on Tuesday night it remains to be seen how many people make the first lifts on Wednesday morning.
