Verbier snow report 18.01.2013

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Verbier.

There is 230cm of snow at the top of the Verbier ski area with 90cm of snow in resort. The last snow was 5cm that came yesterday.

The weather over the next few days looks mixed and as usual you won’t know until you are up there and even if it looks bad out of the window it can be amazing up the mountain so it is well worth a shot. There is a fair bit of sunshine forecast to keep breaking through the clouds and it looks as if the temperatures are expected to fall quite significantly over coming days. Saturday we’ll be seeing some sunshine and a few clouds, with temperatures of-15, Sunday will have a light snowfall, a perfect covering for the week ahead.

The conditions on the mountain are amazing, with a fresh layer of powder covering the pistes and empty slopes are making for long days skiing. The cold weather recently is keeping the snow we do have in mint condition. An area that is particularly great at the moment is all the way to the top of Mont-fort and skiing the black down, the snow is soft with no ice that I’ve seen, carrying this run all the way down the red at Col des Gentianes is the perfect way to warm up for a big days skiing in great conditions. The temperatures at the moment are reaching -12 in resort, and up to -19 at Col des Gentianes, so do wrap up warm on the mountain.

There is plenty to do, and it does not all involve drinking. Wholey cow is a new company offering fitness and yoga classes everyday. You can also go to one of the many spas in town or get a massage in the comfort of your own home .Also do not forget the new spa at the Hotel Cordee des Alpes (old Wonderbar) .For those of you with less expensive tastes the sports centre down by Patier has an ice rink, swimming pool, basic spa and all the usual sports centre facilities. They also have ice go-karting which is enormous fun and well recommended.

The snow park here is under construction and expected to be opening soon, however this Saturday hosts the Verbier ride competition, showcasing very talented skiers in the La Chaux area, definitely a time to grab a beer and take a look at some of the amazing tricks and stunts.
