Val Thorens Snow Report, 02 Mar 2010

Val Thorens The snow depth is 185cm at 3,200m on the Glacier Du Bouchet whilst the lower slopes have 130cm of snow at 2,300m.

There was 5cm of snow on Sunday 28th February and all the runs and lifts in Val Thorens are fully open.

Last week we had lots of snow throughout the whole week, with a final few centimetres to finish the week. On Monday we had a beautiful sunny day to ski on the snow pack from last week.

We had a group of pretty fast skiers with the Ski Hosting group so we could cover the whole of Val Thorens area, covering the 3 faces of the glacier bowls in VT. There were not many people around and the snow was perfect, especially in the higher slopes in Val Thorens like Christine, Moraine and Rhodes.

We made a stop at the top of the Cime de Caron, the newly built cable car which took no time to drop us up on the magnificent viewpoint were we could contemplate the breathtaking 360 degree view from Mont Blanc to Chambery.

In the afternoon we had the chance of exploring the lower valley in Les Menuires and Saint Martin, but we decided to go over to Orelle, the best choice for the afternoon sun. We took the Bouchet chairlift to the highest point in the ski domain, and then found the best powder in resort. Finally we made a return to Val Thorens as the high clouds started making their way into the valley.

Today the sun is shining beautifully; we are going to cover the whole valley going to Saint Martin de Belleville. It will be an awesome day out!

The forecast for the next few days is sunny Wednesday morning with clouds coming up in the afternoon and heavy snow throughout the night, making a grey Thursday with quite a lot of snow fall in the whole valley. Friday should be a beautiful sunny powder epic day.

Tonight we have an awesome free Jazz concert and tomorrow there is a torchlight descent with hot chocolate on arrival, the rest of the week a There is a full programme full of activities for all ages over the rest of the week with entertainment for children and adults alike.

This week on the ice driving track (as featured in Top Gear) we have the Peugeot Winter Tour on Friday, to try the new 3008, 4007 and 5008 models!! Awesome!!
