Val d Isere Snow Report, 21 Jan 2011

Val d'IsèreThere is 123 cm of snow on the upper slopes and 52cm in resort.

I well and truly feel like a seasonnaire with my goggle tan! The sun has been flooding the mountains for the past week, yet the snow conditions have not deteriorated, and this has been helped due to the occasional light dusting which means I’ve had an amazing week of skiing and basking in the sun outside mountain restaurants.

Of course the very best snow can be found up the Passaillas Glaceir which Ihave claimed as my sweet spot. It has a tendency to be deserted for some strange reason! So when you do come out to Val d’Isère head on up there and enjoy the lack of queues.

Today will be another sunny day but the wind might make it feel a little colder than it actually is! Apart from the occasional late night snow showers, the sun will stay with us throughout the weekend.

You what makes rally car racing exciting? The carnage as they blast around country roads! Now how about we exchange the roads for ice! That’s right, the “Auto Moto” challenge is coming to Val and i’m raring to get down to La Daille on Saturday to go and watch it. In other events, last night witnessed a torch lit descent, however this one was a much more sombre affair as it was in honour of those who had lost their lives on the mountain.
