Val d Isere Snow Report, 01 Mar 2011

Val d'IsèreSnow depth at the top of the ski area:   150cm of snow on the upper slopes

Snow depth in resort:                                   75cm

Date and amount  of last snowfall:           01/03/11 it’s still going, I don’t see and end in sight!

So much snow! Walking out my flat this morning I was up to my shins in snow, I must admit I kicked it up in the air and then made the perfect snowball that narrowly missed my colleagues head!

Yesterday on the mountain was amazing! I spent the day waist deep in powder, I hadn’t really experience anything quite like it before, I was tracking fresh powder fields and discovering new sweet spots and cliff drops.

Of course the conditions on the pistes are ideal, with full coverage everywhere and not an icy patch in site! I spent yesterday playing in powder on skis, my first endeavour into the world of off-piste skiing! But today I’m taking out the big powder board and will be surfing the hills! Despite the fact it’s still snowing, the visibility is remarkably good and many of the fair weather skiers have decided to take refuge from the clouds (their fur lined collars might get cloggy), but what’s their loss is my gain!

It’s snowing! Heavily! And will continue to do so throughout the night!  And if the forecast is right, tomorrow will be the perfect bluebird day! I’m really really excited! And then the clouds will come in once again with some more fresh snow on Thursday!

Does the name Chelsy Davy ring any bells? Well for those who are not in the know, it’s Prince Harry’s girlfriend, and she has decided to make Val d’Isere here holiday destination! She was seen dancing in the V.I.P. section of the Folie Douce, and appeared to be enjoying herself… well of course she was, who doesn’t love being entertained by Kelly Starlight! Tonight will see a torch lit descent courtesy of the local ski schools and of course their freestyle demo!
