Our Top 7 Moments of the Season
A Season Round Up
From tartiflette recipes to Bond in Solden, and most recently the London Marathon being completed in ski boots, it has been a bumper winter season! Here are our favourite moments…
- Candide’s One Of Those Days 3
This moment, when Thovex 360’s over a speedrider, is amazingly, probably one if the least extreme feats of skiing in this incredible POV video.
Other highlights include, jumping over the Tour de France race, landing on a grassy field, and of course skiing over a running helicopter.. as you do..

- Arlberg Lift Announcement
- Bond in Sölden
- London Marathon in Ski Boots?!
- Alpine Food…mmm…
- New Year
- Crashed Ice comes to Avoriaz
Back in February, the Arlberg Ski Area which encompasses the resorts of St Anton and Lech announced that it was planning to build new lifts ready for the Winter 16/17 season. This would mean it was no longer necessary to hop on a bus when skiing between the 2 resorts. Read the full details here
In case you missed it, we were a tad excited about 007 appearing in our featured resort of Sölden!
Although sadly the film never featured Bond clipping in (you’ll have to go back to the classics like On Her Majesty’s Secret Service for that), there were some stunning vistas of the resort and ski area.
A very recent one, and perhaps not technically within the ski season, but we felt that Al Machell’s achievement was so incredible that it definitely deserved a mention. Al walked the full 26 mile distance in his ski boots and a racing cat suit! Al was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 21, and later suffered from a kidney problem amongst other issues, thought to have been caused by the chemotherapy drugs. This sadly ended his racing career. He was raising money for 2 charities which helped him personally – The Brain Tumour Charity & The Royal Free Kidney Patient Association, and you can still donate on the links.
26 miles of heel toe, heel toe, heel toe, heel toe, heel toe, heel toe, heel toe…
We challenged food bloggers to make some classic Alpine dishes – Foccacia, Gröstl and Tartiflette.

Mountain air, snow, fireworks, and the chance to bring in the New Year skiing, there’s a lot of reasons to be in The Alps at this time of year. Plus, for next season we are offering 2 nights Free during a 9 night stay!
We focused on the celebrations in Val d’Isère, which included a Family Cup Giant Slalom Race, ESF spectacular show, and just a few fireworks! Have a look at the full lowdown here, or if you just want to look at some pretty fireworks, click here!
In January, the emerging sport which makes Ice Hockey look sedentry came to Avoriaz. Red Bull Crashed Ice is essentially Skier Cross but on ice.. just in case Skier Cross wasn’t dramatic enough for you!
