Tignes Snow Report 23 Mar 2012

Tignes, FranceSnow depth on the upper slopes of the Espace Killy is 212cm and in resort the depth is still great with 127cm.

Following some excellent snowfall at the beginning of the week the snow is still skiing beautifully well.  The fresh powder has now been piste bashed in meaning the pistes are starting the day beautifully flat and white.  Expect the top surface to break up during the day, but the slightly colder temperatures trough the middle of the day has allowed the condition of the snow to stay fresh through the day.
The recent snow fall has allowed all of the lower tree lined runs, runs into Tignes Le Breviere, La Daille and Val d’Isère, to catch some more snow and allow riders to go and play with some powder and trees.
The more advanced off piste areas around the Espace Killy have also taken more snow.  This has refreshed these fantastic routes and open them up to slightly less advanced skiers and snowboarders to hit them knowing the landing is soft if they get it wrong.  The Toviere to Chevril route in Tignes Le Lac has done particularly well with the snowfall as there is a large number of trees as well as now pisted runs on the whole face.

Sunshine is forecast for the next few days with temperatures sitting around freezing level during the hottest part of the day.  This will keep the snow nice and fresh and allow a full days skiing all around resort.

A water slide has just been made at the bottom of the Milionex piste and will be opening this week.  A contest will start this afternoon allowing everyone to show off their balance and potentially swimming ability trying to make it across the gap on skis or a snowboard.  Expect some very entertaining stances as everyone gets very nervous by a 12ft water gap.  There will be live music on to help build a fantastic atmosphere at the rond point de piste in Tignes le Lac.
