After a weak cold front crosses the regions, the weather conditions will slowly improve throughout the course of the weekend. On Saturday, clouds will frequently block out the sun and bring scattered snow showers along the mountain ranges. Longer sunny spells are forecast for Sunday, though clouds are expected, too. Starting next week, bright sunshine and clear skies are forecast. These nice conditions will continue on into Tuesday. From Wednesday on, the influence of a low-pressure area will increase, the weather character will become more variable. Wintry cold temperatures are generally forecast.
After a week of low temperatures and fresh snow falling in many areas, Thursday 14th February saw higher temperatures and widespread sunny across Austrian resorts. The Arlberg ski area is currently enjoying fantastic skiing due to loads of new snow over the past two weeks. There is a likelihood of fresh snow in higher areas. Next week looks set to bring more sunshine and clear skies in time for the busy half term week.
The avalanche danger remains contingent on altitude Above approximately 2000 m it is moderate in general; beneath that altitude, low. In the Arlberg and Ausserfern regions the danger level will possibly rise to considerable this afternoon, due to the intensifying winds above 2300 m. Avalanche prone locations for back country tours are the snowdrift accumulations, particularly on W to N to SE facing slopes as well as behind terrain edges.
