St Anton Snow Report, 10 Dec 2010
Its snowing heavily here at the moment. The slopes are all covered in fresh powder so any powder heads coming out over the next week will absolutely love it here. Run 24 from the top of the Nasserein is especially tasty at the moment with the tree line providing excellent visibility.
In terms of visibility in general the lower half of the mountain is skiing like a fine day even with the large amount of snow that’s falling. The town itself is looking stunning with its snow lined roofs. St A(n)TON of snow is really living up to its name!
A further 13cm of snow is expected tomorrow, 11cm on Sunday and a further 23cm on Monday. The temperature is set to stay cold on the top of the mountain so the snow should settle well.
The Red Bull Hut Rally is set to kick off on the 21st of December. Competitors will race across the roofs of the town in an event that’s well worth a watch. 24 international freeski scene pros have been invited to join the race in finding the fastest line between mountain huts and moguls down to the base station of the Galzigbahn lifts. Leading the way will be Skicross X-Games winner, Daron Rahlves and Andi Matt, Olympic silver medallist and reigning World Champion in Skicross. Amateurs can even qualify and enter the race if they are good enough. Cracking stuff.
