Solden snow report 25.01.2013

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Solden.

There is 206cm of snow at the top of the Solden ski area with 20cm in resort. It is currently snowing lightly in resort.

There are 35 of the 37 Solden pistes open with 29 of the 33 lifts open as well.

The sunshine is forecast to linger into tomorrow with glorious sunshine forecast all of Saturday. The clouds will have closed in by Sunday morning, though, preparing for the snow which is to be heaviest overnight into Monday – with a total of 14cm forecast to fall! It’ll brighten up into the start of next week. Temperatures are staying very low today, with lows of minus 18 on the glacier. They are set to rise a little, and by the end of the weekend there will be highs of minus 8/9 degrees Celsius. Wind will stay generally light, but will pick up overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

It’s one of those magical days, where the cloud is sitting in the valley like a sea of white, and the lifts bring you out of the blanket of cloud to glorious sunshine above 2500m!! Don’t be fooled by the sun, though, as it’s very cold up there – especially when you’re trying to stay high above the clouds! Slopes are quiet, but the busier runs are getting a little churned up by the end of the day and some icy patches are beginning to show. You’ll still find some powder on the higher slopes, and with the new snow set to fall in the next couple of days, powder will be a given.

Today is, of course, the Giggijoch Party from 1pm until 4:30pm at the top of the Giggijoch gondola. Rock cover band, Supermaex, will be entertaining the crowds with all your favourite and classic rock tunes – a perfect way to warm up on this chilly January day. Head down to LIVE bar, if live bands you thing, from 9:30pm this evening. There’s a jam session with resident band, Harry and the Bavarians – so you could even join in if you’re feeling bold! And if you want to showcase your vocal talents, then head to SnowRock for their Friday night Karaoke.
