Solden Snow Report 20 Mar 2012
Waking up this morning to a very snowy Sölden with lots of snow underfoot, which is a nice change from the past couple of weeks when it was looking quite Spring-like. However, Winter hasn’t had enough quite yet, and around 10cm of snow has fallen in town yesterday. This means that there will be some lovely soft powder to glide through on- and off-piste. With the volume of snow, however, it could get quite chopped up on piste towards the end of the day, but the slopes aren’t nearly as busy as the past few weeks, so the slopes should stay smoother for longer!
The snow clouds have disappeared this morning and the sun has come out! Bright sunshine with the odd fluffy cloud is forecasted until Saturday. Today will stay relatively cool with only highs of 4 degrees Celsius in town and highs of minus 9 at the top of the ski area – so it will be a lot cooler in the shade. It will, however, warm up a little over the next couple of days, with Friday being the warmest, with highs of 3 degrees Celsius on the slopes. The wind will stay relatively light.
If it’s traditional Tyrolean music that you’re after, then Tuesday has lots on offer in Sölden. You could head to Eugen’s Obstlerhütte, just below Hochsölden on run 21 from 3pm to get a taste of the local culture – the ‘Tshirgant Duo’ are playing some oom pah oom pah music. Or, the Fuchsloch in Hotel Hubertus host a traditional live music Evening most afternoons from 4pm – complete with Lederhosen and curly moustaches! If you miss the Après-ski, then restaurant Giggi Tenne, at the bottom of the Giggijoch gondola station also hosts a traditional live music evening from 8pm. If Austrian accordion music isn’t your thing, then club, Bierhimml have a have a live rock/pop cover band, Siris, playing on Wednesday from 9:30pm. SnowRock, have their famous singing barmaids
on Wednesday and an ‘open-mic’ night on Thursday – so there are ways to escape the Lederhosen!!
