Solden snow report 18.01.2013

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Solden

There is 220cm of snow at the top of the Solden ski area and 10cm of snow in resort. There was a downfall of 10cm yesterday.

All 37 runs are open and 29 of the 33 Solden ski lifts are open.

The glorious sunshine all day today is lingering on until tomorrow making it a perfect end to the week. The clouds will close in on Sunday afternoon, though, and bring a light dusting of snow overnight. The snow will continue into Monday. Temperatures will be very low today with lows of minus 23 on the glacier but will become milder into tomorrow with highs of minus 11. Sunday will be the mildest day with temperatures rising a good 5-10 degrees Celsius, before they drop back down into the beginning of next week.

The fresh snow on the slopes is making skiing conditions idyllic – with just a fresh thin layer of powder on top of the pistes. This has also improved the snow conditions off piste tremendously – so get out early today to make some fresh tracks!! The visibility has been quite poor the past 2 days… so waking up today to blue skies is a welcome change as we can actually see where we’re going and enjoy the fresh snow! It’s still very cold though – so layer up!!

Today at the Giggijoch Fun-zone, the Electric Mountain Festival has a special act performing from 1pm – 4:30pm instead of the usual cover bands. With a massive hit in the Austrian/German charts (always on the radio), Klangkarussel, musical duo from Salzburg, will be creating more of a ‘clubby’ feel this afternoon on the mountain – AND tickets are free!!

Live music continues down in town this evening with a karaoke night in SnowrockI at 9pm and a jam session at LIVE bar led by Harry and the Bavarians from 9:30pm – so if you’re an avid musician, get down to join in the session!

Also further down the valley in Umhausen/Niederthai, there is the ‘Naturbahnrodler’ World cup this weekend i.e. competitive tobogganing! With fancy sledges and lycra, this isn’t your normal tobogganing… So if you want to see how it should be done, it’s only a short bus ride away!!
