Shaken not stirred in Solden

James Bond is in Solden and you heard it here first…

There is a real excitement to be found around Solden as the film crews and technicians arrive in town to continue the filming of the next James Bond movie, Spectre.  Their vehicles and equipment can be seen not only in their giant depot in Solden village but also on the mountain.

Solden must have been chosen because of its spectacular mountains, its snow-sure altitude and its quick easy connection with the rest of the world with Innsbruck only an hour away by car.

In December we were treated to the dramatic sight of three Land Rovers in a car chase on the slopes at the top of Run 1 on the Gaislachkogl mountain racing around the corner on the snow and then being towed back up by a snowcat to the next take.  We also saw two stunt planes flying low down the valley between two of our three mountains, a fantastic sight from a chairlift high above.

This week we have the area around the Ice Q restaurant at the very top of the mountain being used for filming with Daniel Craig and his other stars being rumoured to be in Solden for these scenes.  As you might imagine there is frantic people spotting going on.  Next month they return for more filming on the road up to the glacier with what everyone expects to be dramatic car chases to tie in with the earlier filmed plane scenes which should give more interesting sights for skiers around the area.

To date, for reasons that are hard to fathom, with its snow sure environment (150 km of on piste skiing, three peaks above 3,000 meters and two glaciers), Solden does not have a large exposure to UK skiers.  When this film comes out at the end of this year Solden’s name will be known and people will be clamouring to visit.
