Obergurgl Snow Report, 26 Mar 2010

Snow BoarderThere is a snow depth of 141cm at the top of the mountain at Festkogl and 36cm on the lower slopes of Obergurgl with all of the lifts are currently running!

With the sun shining, the skies crystal blue and the mild temperatures, the past few days in Obergurgl have presented very enjoyable skiing conditions over the past few days.

With fresh snow expected later today, this should add much needed powder the base layer and provide even more enjoyable skiing conditions throughout the resort.

Some of the best runs to sample just now are those that start from the tops of Hochgurgl and Obergurgl. Blue run 27 and Red run 16 still boast some quality snow and make for some fantastic skiing experiences!

The warm temperatures that we have experienced over the past few days in the resort are expected to fall significantly by this evening, with a low of minus 6 predicted for tonight at resort level and minus 12 at the top of the mountain! Several centimetres of snow are expected to fall overnight, hopefully creating some brilliant fresh powder conditions for tomorrow morning. Snow showers should continue throughout Saturday and more snowfall is predicted for the middle of next week.

Tonight will be the International Cross-Country Skiing Night Sprint, held in Niederthai (just down the road from Obergurgl in the Ötztal valley). Apart from the excitement of the sprint races, there promises to be a spectacular show put on by the local community, consisting of stunts, jumps and fireworks…definitely not to be missed!
