Obergurgl Snow Report, 19 Mar 2010
Conditions throughout Obergurgl and Hochgurgl this week are fantastic with 156cm of snow at the top of the mountain and 47cm in resort. Fresh snow at the beginning of this week has ensured that conditions on the piste remain fantastic. Off piste skiing conditions are nothing short of brilliant, with off piste trail number 11 seeing some of the best fresh powder over the last couple of days. Blue run 15 is the one to watch over the next couple of days: a beautiful run down through the trees to David’s Hutte (also a great place for lunch!)
The sun is shining, the skies are blue and spring is definitely starting to arrive in Obergurgl. Temperatures are currently mild and are expected to continue to hover around the freezing mark for the rest of the weekend. Light snowfalls are expected on the mountains on Sunday afternoon and Monday morning. Sunnier conditions are expected to prevail at the beginning of next week, but temperatures are forecast to fall significantly, compared to the warmer temperatures we are currently experiencing.
For an excellent Austrian lunch try David’s Hutte (at the bottom of blue run 15 and red run 16) which serves a wide range of traditional food (the schnitzel and gröstl are definitely not to be missed!) On top of this, all the waiting staff wear traditional Tyrolean costumes and don’t be surprised if they burst into traditional songs and dancing halfway through your meal (with the accompanying accordion of course!).
