Obergurgl Snow Report, 06 Apr 2010

SkierThere is a depth of snow reaching 152cm at the top of the mountain Festkogl and 39cm on the lower runs into resort.

Another glorious day dawns over the charming village of Obergurgl and today promises to be a day of superb skiing. Fresh snow over the weekend has left it possible to make tracks in the fresh powder across the whole resort. Visibility is very good, wind is light and the snow is soft and crunchy. Now is a brilliant time to try out off-piste trail number 11, which is marked not pisted, resulting is some great fresh powder but also a few mogul fields thrown in for a bit of a challenge!

The sun has broken through the clouds and is shining down on the whole resort. The sun is expected to continue to shine today with the occasional cloudy spell setting in. Temperatures will be mild, hovering around the freezing mark, and wind speeds are forecast to be light. The next two days should continue in the same pattern, with some light snow expected on Thursday evening and set to continue into the weekend.

Located at 2270 metres, the Schönwieshütte is an essential place to visit during your stay in Obergurgl.  This mountain hut will pick you up in a skidoo and pull you along to the hut by ropes (behind the skidoo!) which is an experience in itself! The only other way to get here is to walk, so you’re guaranteed a quiet and peaceful location for lunch or an afternoon stop, complete with spectacular views! Then when you’re finished, just strap on your skis and ski back down to rejoin the piste!
