Selva, ItalySnow up at Seceda, the upper piste depth is 70cm, while the snow depth in resort in 30cm.

The slopes have become noticeably quieter this week which reduces the risk of mogels building up through the day. The tree lined blues in Plan de Gralba are maintaining good snow through the day and benefit from a bit of shade in the afternoon. The Canazei bowl also offers a broad area of north facing slopes that always offers plenty of space for practicing those large carving turns.

Impressive snow conditions can also be found on our away days to The Hidden Valley, Cinque Torri and Cortina. Deserted slopes and north facing slopes make for some beautiful skiing conditions despite the warmer spring conditions.

Selva, ItalySuper skiing in the Dolomites with the upper slopes of Selva having 100cm of snow depth and lower runs have a base of 65cm.

We are enjoying spring-like conditions right now here in Selva with amazing blue skies everyday. At night the temperatures are dropping below freezing allowing the snow canons to do their magic out on the pistes meaning the best ski conditions can be found in the morning time. In the afternoon, head out to the higher areas such as Marmalada, where excellent fresh snow conditions can be found through out the day.

Closer to resort, you can find some quiet red runs over at Monte Pana which sit in the shade all afternoon.
On Thursday 15th we are heading over for a days skiing in the prestigious Cortina. Cortina is famous for its ski-ranges, scenery, shops and après ski scene. Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

Selva, ItalySnow fall of 20cm yesterday has the resort buzzing and the upper slopes of Selva at Seceda have a depth of 100cm and in resort 65cm.

We are pleased to say that an almighty dump of snow hit Selva yesterday morning and continued throughout the day, evening and night. Reports coming in early evening yesterday (5th March) said that snow was already waist deep up on Marmalada mountain. With this amount of snow and the piste bashers working hard through the night this is destined to be one of the best days skiing of the season in both high and low regions. And to top it all off, the sun has decided to come out for us this morning making it look a truly magical and twinkly winter wonderland.

Weather forecast for next 3 days is for mostly sunny clear skies today and tomorrow with some chance of cloud coming in on Thursday with possibility of more light snow.

With the beautiful snow capped trees and mountains that now fill the Selva Val Gardena landscape, the moon light cross country skiing in Monte Pana, St Christina is bound to be quite a sight on Wednesday evening.

On Friday evening at 20.30 we have the return of the ice hockey games in Pranives stadium where Selva Val Gardena will be playing Milan. Predicted to be quite a feisty game if other games between these two rival teams are anything to go by!

Selva Snow Report, 02 March 2012

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Selva, ItalyUpper slopes of the Dolomiti ski area have 278cm on the Marmolada glacier and Selva’s own runs have a base of 90cm.

More beautiful sunny days mean that spring has arrived here in Selva. The pistes remain in good condition with the sterling work of the pisteurs and their snow canons having provided the thick base that some areas now require. First lifts result in some fantastic conditions down such runs as the black Saslong A, the Men’s World Cup Downhill run as well as the ever popular “James Bond” run, La Longia. The less populated areas such as Monte Pane will give you rich rewards in terms of snow conditions and lack of crowds. Elsewhere, Plan De Gralba remains an early sun-spot but the early afternoon shading shadow of the Saslong rock ensures the snow remains in good condition.

Mostly dry, warm weather conditions expected over Friday and Saturday of this week with a front moving across on Sunday and Monday which is expected to bring a fairly sizeable dump of snow. Wind will be generally light.

After last weeks 75th Anniversary Ski Show by the Ski School of Selva, it is the turn of the younger group from the Ski School 200. Monday will see the Prada wearing yellow and grey ladies and gentlemen performing synchronised skiing, freestyle jumps and all sorts of other weird and wacky stunts such as air-boards, para-skiing, 3-on-a-ski etc! Come along and enjoy our Selva At Night event which will incorporate this and their cauldron of free Glühwein!

The tourist office in S.Cristina have organised a guided Winter hike taking place this Thursday over at the Alpe di Siusi. The walk will take place through the untouched winter landscapes, stopping for lunch at a mountain hut with breathtaking views.

Clouds are a rare sight in Selva right now with everyone enjoying beautiful blue skies. The warm spring-like temperatures are ensuring that the fresh snow is keeping soft and not too crunchy in the morning. The pistes are keeping well groomed with the snow canons out every night when the temperatures drop. The Edelweiss valley off the Sella Ronda circuit is providing some lovely soft snowy runs that keep the sun that little bit later than the surrounding areas.

Mostly dry, warm weather conditions expected over the next few days. Some clouds expected Wednesday clearing up again by Thursday. Wind will be generally light.

Local Ice Hockey team HC Gherdina are playing Pergine at 20.30 tomorrow night at the Pranives stadium as they have reached the play offs. Winning the past few games there is a great atmosphere surrounding the team at the moment and it’s definitely not one to miss.

Selva, ItalySnow depth on the high point of the Dolomites, the Marmolada Glacier, is at 278cm and the snow depth in Selva itself is 65cm.

The snow as usual was incredible in Cortina and Cinque Torri yesterday, empty slopes and freshly pisted snow. Snow conditions in resort have been given a good freshen up with the new snow that we had at the start of the week. Warm temperatures are ensuring that the fresh snow is keeping soft and not too crunchy in the morning. We enjoyed a day out in Cortina this week with deserted slopes and wonderful conditions. Be sure to look it up when you come out here.

We are expecting some warm almost spring like conditions with sunny conditions today and Saturday. There are then some light snow showers forecast for Sunday and Monday.

On Monday 27th Feb, we have a special ski show on the Frëina slope in Selva with Ski School Selva celebrating their 75 year anniversary.

Selva Snow Report, 21 Feb 2012

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Selva, ItalyAfter 25cm from Sunday through Monday the snow depth on the high point of the Dolomiti ski area is 120cm whilst Selva’s own upper slopes have 90cm and lower runs 65cm.

A heavy day of snow on Sunday, carrying through to Monday morning, means we have 25cm of fresh powder here in Selva right now.

The weather conditions today are perfect with a brisk temperature of -6 with clear blue skies and the fresh snow making the pistes perfect. The lucky few who got out first thing this morning enjoyed the freshly bashed pistes with spanking new powder.

Yesterday morning most people headed over to Plan de Grabla to get the best conditions whilst the snow was still falling as most of the pistes are tree lined creating the best visibility.

Today most people have headed out to the Sella Ronda where conditions are ideal with the fresh pistes, perfect visibility and sunny skies.

Sunny clear skies are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, warm conditions in the day, -2 maximum, -4 minimum for Tuesday dropping to -13 maximum, -16 minimum for Tuesday night. Some clouds expected on Thursday which will see temperatures rise to 2 degrees in the daytime.

Tonight will see the last celebration of Carnival taking place before Lent starts tomorrow..

Do you want to learn how to skate on Ice? The Val Gardena active programme has set up lessons at the Ice skating rink at Pranives for Thursdays. It’s a great chance to learn something new off the slopes!

Selva Snow Report, 17 Feb 2012

Friday, February 17th, 2012

SelvaSnow depth on the Dolomiti has reached a depth of 278cm whilst on the local slopes of Seceda the upper piste depth is 75cm.

We have had regular snow showers through the last week which have been putting a wee freshener on the slopes meaning even the main Sella Ronda link points are skiing very well. The snow cannons remain on through the night creating large piles of snow which are pushed around all over the pistes. The area is 95% covered by these machines so we experience fresh powder on a regular basis.

We hosted our guests over beyond Val De Fassa on the green Sella Ronda circuit today taking in the exquisite scenery of the City of Stones run. Coming back to Plan De Gralba for lunch, it was a chance for us all to try our hand at the Boarder Cross and ‘take air’ off the rollers towards the end. The snow at all points was in great nick, the cold weather meaning the snow remains in tiptop condition underneath the imposing Sasso Lungo rock.

After lunch, it was time to show the guests the small but beautiful area around Monte Pana. Absolutely deserted! If you come over, be sure to get over here from the top of Plan de Gralba, it is local enough to blitz it in an afternoon, but you will be amazed at how untouched it is. You drop down on a gentle tree lined red which brings you to the bottom of the Mont de Seura chairlift. This gives you access to a red and a black which are a an absolute delight. The snow is perfect, there’s no one there, it’s just the sort of confidence boosting area you should head to early on in your stay. There is also three or four excellent nursery runs for the little guests or for those looking to remind themselves how it all works again!

Today’s weather, some snow showers but generally broken cloud and clearing through the day. Tomorrow’s forecast is for clear conditions (and empty slopes! Everyone else’s transfer day!( Sunday, there is the chance of a more substantial snowfall meaning a fine start to the new week.

Carnival week is upon us and it lasts into next week. Monday night sees a Carnival torchlight descent with SkiSchool 2000 on the main Frëina slope in town. Be sure to take us up on our Selva By Night event where we introduce you to a few of the local bars and restaurants and escort you down to the show.

Elsewhere, why not take the opportunity to receive some expert guidance and advice whilst trying out the indoor climbing wall in the centre of town. It caters for all standards and would be an excellent ‘apres’ memory for you and the little Spidermen, I mean, children.

Finally, for those of you who perhaps want a more varied stay in Selva, ask for details about the winter hikes that run from the Tourist Centre in town every week. A challenging 5 hour walk will take you up into the foothills around Selva and introduce you to ruined castles, winter wildlife and exceptional views across the valley. An exhilarating day out that will have you sleeping like a baby log that night!
