Snow depth on the Dolomiti has reached a depth of 278cm whilst on the local slopes of Seceda the upper piste depth is 75cm.
We have had regular snow showers through the last week which have been putting a wee freshener on the slopes meaning even the main Sella Ronda link points are skiing very well. The snow cannons remain on through the night creating large piles of snow which are pushed around all over the pistes. The area is 95% covered by these machines so we experience fresh powder on a regular basis.
We hosted our guests over beyond Val De Fassa on the green Sella Ronda circuit today taking in the exquisite scenery of the City of Stones run. Coming back to Plan De Gralba for lunch, it was a chance for us all to try our hand at the Boarder Cross and ‘take air’ off the rollers towards the end. The snow at all points was in great nick, the cold weather meaning the snow remains in tiptop condition underneath the imposing Sasso Lungo rock.
After lunch, it was time to show the guests the small but beautiful area around Monte Pana. Absolutely deserted! If you come over, be sure to get over here from the top of Plan de Gralba, it is local enough to blitz it in an afternoon, but you will be amazed at how untouched it is. You drop down on a gentle tree lined red which brings you to the bottom of the Mont de Seura chairlift. This gives you access to a red and a black which are a an absolute delight. The snow is perfect, there’s no one there, it’s just the sort of confidence boosting area you should head to early on in your stay. There is also three or four excellent nursery runs for the little guests or for those looking to remind themselves how it all works again!
Today’s weather, some snow showers but generally broken cloud and clearing through the day. Tomorrow’s forecast is for clear conditions (and empty slopes! Everyone else’s transfer day!( Sunday, there is the chance of a more substantial snowfall meaning a fine start to the new week.
Carnival week is upon us and it lasts into next week. Monday night sees a Carnival torchlight descent with SkiSchool 2000 on the main Frëina slope in town. Be sure to take us up on our Selva By Night event where we introduce you to a few of the local bars and restaurants and escort you down to the show.
Elsewhere, why not take the opportunity to receive some expert guidance and advice whilst trying out the indoor climbing wall in the centre of town. It caters for all standards and would be an excellent ‘apres’ memory for you and the little Spidermen, I mean, children.
Finally, for those of you who perhaps want a more varied stay in Selva, ask for details about the winter hikes that run from the Tourist Centre in town every week. A challenging 5 hour walk will take you up into the foothills around Selva and introduce you to ruined castles, winter wildlife and exceptional views across the valley. An exhilarating day out that will have you sleeping like a baby log that night!
