Ischgl, AustriaWith a two metre base you can’t really go wrong! A fair amount of snow fell last week and it’s made for beautiful pistes and even more beautiful off piste!

The powder to the right of black 21 still has some space for fresh tracks and amongst the red 40s is absolutely glorious. Off B1 blue 6 is a wonderful sweeping descent, and up next to the Pardorama all the runs are in especially good condition, particularly red 5, a nice unknown alternative to get home. Ischgl pretty much has it all, with gorgeous pistes, undiscovered powder, and even the park has been rebuilt to have some of the largest jumps in the region!

There is light snow forecast this afternoon and tomorrow, which will set the remainder of the week up beautifully, as we’re due for much warmer temperatures, low wind speeds and sunshine.

Lech, AustriaAfter heavy snow fall this week the pistes are once again laden with fresh powder, with some waist deep snow, particularly off piste! The Steinmader has a base of up to 430cm and in resort there is 210cm!

The village of Lech is pretty nostalgic with the smell of gluwein, après party music, happy faces and incredible snow conditions.

Obergurgl Snow Report, 27 Jan 2012

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Obergurgl, AustriaUnderfoot during first runs after grooming the snow has that wonderful ‘squeaky’ quality and the resort’s pistes are perfect corduroy every morning making skiing joy. Snow fall this week has helped keep the pistes in great condition and the upper slope shave a base of 195cm and resort runs 125cm.

The snow this week fell largely vertically(a rare occurrence in Obergurgl!) and as such has stayed in place well since, helped by this week’s much colder ambient temperatures.

Off piste is now largely tracked out by our resident selection of powder hounds. In the higher bowls on Hochgurgl side there are still some fresh areas to be found but it’s, currently, not available straight off the lift. Hopefully the forecast snow will change that again!

Weather is due to cloud over today with snow forecast over the next 3 days and into next week. Should stay around -6.

Avoriaz Snow Report, 27 Jan 2012

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Avoriaz, FranceThe conditions continue to be exceptional with an upper slop snow base of 290cm, almost matched by the 250cm on the lower runs into resort.

Yesterday, I decided to take advantage of my Full Porte Du Soleil Pass and skied the Les Gets and Morzine area.

I took the home run from Avoriaz down to the bottom of the Prodain Valley, where I took the free bus that takes you to the other side of Morzine and directly outside the Pleney Telecabine.

Even after 3 seasons, this area still holds some of the most joy for me. Piste B and D in Morzine are just wonderful, especially with the current snow conditions. No matter where you go in the Les Gets bowl, you cannot go wrong; just make sure you travel to the top of the Rainfolly. The views at the top are breath-taking. The stunning vista takes in Mont blanc and Flaine, with sweeping valleys and snow as far as the eyes can stretch, it really is beautiful. The blue and the red coming back down aren’t half bad either!!!

On the way back we stopped at the Inferno bar, a bar/restaurant located in the Nyon range between Les Gets and Morzine. They have a bbq on the piste, live band and it always makes for a great atmosphere.
I then headed back to Avoriaz and had a quick play in the stash. Again, with the snow conditions as are, the stash is just pure fun at the moment!

Weather forecast for next 3 days is for light snow all day tomorrow clearing a bit for Sunday and then more snow on Monday!

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Solden, AustriaAfter the snowfall at the beginning of the week, the slopes are looking good with 292cm on the upper pistes. Thin powder at the sides of the pistes to glide on, and generally very good soft snow on all slopes.

Temperatures rising a little today, from the minus 24 degrees from last night (!), should soften up the snow slightly on the lower slopes. The sun is shining, however, so it looks to be another fantastic day’s skiing and snowboarding in Sölden.

According to the forecast, the weather is set to close in a little this afternoon with some light snow showers. This will continue through the night with around 4cm of snow predicted to fall. Tignes Snow Report, 27 Jan 2012

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Tignes, FranceWith the snow fall during the middle part of the week the resort feels nice and fresh again and the upper slopes now have 205cm whilst in resort there is 148cm.

The blue sky yesterday allowed the snow to pack down and the avalanche risk to tumble now down at 2 which opens up the world famous Tignes off piste runs with a reduced risk.

On piste conditions are truly fantastic. When cruising around resort you can count on good snow that will allow edges to easily catch. All major access runs into Tignes and Val d’Isere are open and beautifully pisted allowing the faster skiers to build speed.

The clouds are forecast to return to Tignes with broken snow fall forecast for the next three days. Temperatures are forecast to plummet which will go a long way to maintaining snow conditions. Winds are forecast to be low which should keep the majority of resort open through the weekend.

With a new slide contest in the centre of Tignes Val Claret allows the local talent in Tignes to show off their freestyle skills. It is open to all abilities so even the most basic ablities can have a good.
