Courchevel Snow Report, 14 Dec 2010

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Courchevel, FranceThe top of the ski area of Courchevel, the Saulire has a snow depth of 62cm while in 1850 centre there’s 28cm.

Wow! What a day, yet again the sun is out and the skies are perfect blue! Courchevel is looking great!

The snow at the top of the resort is still in brilliant condition, with packed pistes that’ll keep the speed demons amongst us entertained for a LONG time!

With more snow forecast for the end of the week Christmas week couldn’t look any better, with opportunities to carve around in the sun, then bouncing around in fresh snow.

Some of the higher slopes are in superb condition for this time of the season, and hopefully after the fresh snow we should be seeing those conditions all the way down to the lower resorts.

Another 10cm of fresh snow is forecast for Friday this week, then a further 10cm of that glorious powder on Sunday! Temperatures are due to stay low throughout the week which will also preserve the snow in pristine condition.

The 3 Vallées area will benefit greatly from the expected snowfall, and will link all lower resorts so the skiing area should open up considerably in the coming week!

With the resort now completely open and everyone happily shredding around in the snow, eating merrily in mountain restaurants, and sipping vin chaud in the evening, Courchevel is the place to be!

About as serious as private parties go, it’s rumoured that both Robbie Williams and Christina Aguilera will be playing to a private audience in Courchevel over the coming week. A perfect opportunity for all you celeb-spotters out there!

Lech Snow Report, 10 Dec 2010

Friday, December 10th, 2010

LechThe snow depth at the top of the ski area, the Steinmahd, is well over a metre with 120cm and in the village itself there’s up to 55cm.

Yesterday’s heavy snowfall has resulted in perfectly fresh powder and newly groomed runs, making it a great day for exploring the mountain. This snow is also helping to create a fantastic base for a long season of great snow on the slopes of the Arlberg. The wide blues into Lech are especially enjoyable with the views of the village under snow, getting us in the mood for Christmas!

Light snow is forecast for the next few days, with a large amount expected on Saturday, just in time for our first guests of the season! Sunday will be a sunny day, and temperatures are forecast to fall well into the minus 20s, so bring plenty of warm clothing!

We’re looking forward to the FIS Men’s slalom on the 17th, organised by the Ski Club Arlberg, which should be a great opportunity to see some experts at work!

St Anton Snow Report, 10 Dec 2010

St Anton Cable CarSnow depth is looking great here with 145cm at the top of ski area with currently 45cm in resort but increasing by the minute as it is snowing now! 13cm is expected today.

Its snowing heavily here at the moment. The slopes are all covered in fresh powder so any powder heads coming out over the next week will absolutely love it here. Run 24 from the top of the Nasserein is especially tasty at the moment with the tree line providing excellent visibility.

In terms of visibility in general the lower half of the mountain is skiing like a fine day even with the large amount of snow that’s falling. The town itself is looking stunning with its snow lined roofs. St A(n)TON of snow is really living up to its name!

A further 13cm of snow is expected tomorrow, 11cm on Sunday and a further 23cm on Monday. The temperature is set to stay cold on the top of the mountain so the snow should settle well.

The Red Bull Hut Rally is set to kick off on the 21st of December. Competitors will race across the roofs of the town in an event that’s well worth a watch. 24 international freeski scene pros have been invited to join the race in finding the fastest line between mountain huts and moguls down to the base station of the Galzigbahn lifts. Leading the way will be Skicross X-Games winner, Daron Rahlves and Andi Matt, Olympic silver medallist and reigning World Champion in Skicross.
