Saas Fee Snow Report, 13 Mar 2012

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Saas Fee, SwitzerlandWonderful snow conditions here with a snow base at the top of the ski area (at 3500m) now 355cm and in resort 65cm.

The sunshine is officially back, with not a cloud in the ski providing perfect visibility onto the perfectly groomed slopes. With the snow from last week still hanging about, the pistes are looking fantastic and as always are thrilling to ski on. The powder also remains in some places off piste providing that additional challenge should you feel you are up to it.

The sun is hanging about for the entire week so the skiing will remain superb. Many of the pistes will be in the sun for most of the day so ensure you’ve got your sunglasses on in this hot weather. There is also a lack of wind for the next few days so the powder will remain from the top of the mountain all the way down to resort.

The glacier downhill mountain bike race is set to take place this month. Mountain bike enthusiasts should not miss this exciting event, it is sure to be some of the most exhilarating downhill mountain biking you have seen.

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Arabba, ItalyThe upper slops of the Marmolada have a snow depth of 278cm and conditions are great after the massive dump at the beginning of the week.

Arabba still has perfect pistes due to the higher altitude, and the direction of the pistes has allowed for reduced melt and superb conditions.

Those runs slightly protected by trees when the sun is at its high point and those slopes also with a steeper gradient have also coped well.

Some slopes are becoming moguled late in the day. Best skiing is still to be had in the morning. The bright sun has meant great visibility, Thursday saw some cloud drop over the Marmolada which challenged some skiers but lifted throughout the day.

Light snow showers predicted for Friday, with temperatures reaching lows of -7 with wind chill, wind speeds to be 5kmph. Saturday the sun will be peeking through the clouds with lows of -8oc and wind speeds between 10 and 15kmph.
