SkierSnow depth at the top of the ski area: 120 cm on the Col de la Traversette

Snow depth in resort     15cm

Date and amount  of last snowfall :     20cm on the La Rosière side on the upper slopes yesterday, 31st March.
Slopes have been refreshed and are pisted beautifully. The runs are all glinting in the early morning sunshine, enticing us up to the top and over to Italy. Runs are deserted and it often feels as though we have the whole piste to ourselves, on top of the world!

Weather over the next few days set to be fantastic with crisp cold mornings and beautiful sunshine – perfect for lounging with a hot chocolate in a deck chair at one of the stunning mountainside cafés here in La Rosière to break up a day of super skiing.

More celebrations for La Rosière’s 50th anniversary with every café, bar and restaurant doing their part!

Snow depth in resort: 35cm in resort

The pistes in the Col du Petit Saint Bernard border area are producing some stunning skiing as well as the sunny bowl in Les Suches above La Thuile.  Closer to La Rosière, the pistes have been well prepared overnight following the weekend snowfall so Mouflon, Chamois, Traversette and Blaireau are skiing well this morning.

Light snow showers are forecast for tonight and tomorrow in the Espace San Bernardo with sunshine returning towards the end of the week.

Over the next fortnight the village is promoting its fine local cuisine and regional products by way of a food fair, cookery workshops and tastings at a local farm. The recent good weather has also brought crowds onto the restaurant and cafe terraces – music fills the air which all adds to a great après ski atmosphere.

Snow depth in resort: 35cm in resort

Some of the best pistes in resort are in the Fort area, with red runs Blaireau & Mouflon looking particularly well-groomed.  The Col du Petit Saint Bernard border area is in excellent condition, with the shade helping to keep the fresh powder.

The next couple of days should see a continuation of the glorious sunshine we are currently enjoying, before the snow starts to fall again towards the end of the weekend and into the start of the week.

Next week is Food & Drink Week in resort!  The tourist office & some of the local shops are combining to put on a number of events throughout the week, giving you the chance to sample some of the region’s finest cheese, wine and bread.

Snow depth in resort 35cm

Date and amount  of last snowfall : 20cm on the La Rosière side on the 17th March.

The fresh powder dump we have received last week certainly refreshed the slopes and since then the skiing has been incredible – the Fort area at the top of the French side has beautifully covered wide red pistes perfect for traversing and perfecting those parallel turns. The Italian side has seen some of the best skiing of the season with perfectly white groomed pistes and gorgeous solid blue skies.

No snow forecast over the next 3 days, just clear blue skies which will make for some fantastic skiing. The temperatures however are staying low between -2 and -8 degrees which will ensure the snow stays until the next little flurry!

Our café quiz is set to be a big one this evening with families fighting it out for top prize, a commemorative bottle of vintage wine for La Rosière’s 50th anniversary and some delicious locally produced sweets for the children!

La RosiereSnow depth at the top of the ski area: 190cm on the Col de la Traversette

Snow depth in resort:   50cm in resort

La Rosière has witnessed plenty of t-shirt skiing this week, with clear blue skies giving us excellent views from the top of resort of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn & the Aosta valley.

The fresh snow in La Thuile & Les Suches has provided some excellent skiing, both on the perfectly manicured pistes and off piste in the fresh powder.

We are expecting some well timed snow on Saturday night, ready for our new guests arriving in resort on Sunday morning.

The big air display on Wednesday was a huge success, with some of France’s top freestyle skiers & boarders descending on La Rosière to show off their best tricks.

Friday afternoon’s ski-joering is proving to be a great success, with bystanders showing a mixture of joy and sheer bemusement at the sight of skiers being towed along by horses.

La Rosiere FranceSnow depth at the top of the ski area:   200 cm on the Col de la Traversette

Snow depth in resort:                                  55cm

Ski conditions have been great since the last flurry with temperatures low enough to retain the snow whilst still being bright and sunny almost every day. Over in Italy the powder is thick and fresh – thoroughly enjoyable in the gorgeous beaming sunshine we’ve got today. From the Manessier nursery slope up to the Fort and from the Bellecombe link down to La Thuile there is great fun to be had by all the family on the newly refreshed, superbly pisted runs.

It’s set to get a little colder over the next 3 days, mainly due to less cloud cover. So crack out the sun cream, as the sun will be shining in La Rosière for the next few days, a perfect excuse to get a winter tan!

The ESF ski show went off with a ‘bang’ quite literally as there were plentiful fireworks at the show last night in aid of today being Mardi Gras – all of our chalets went crepe crazy this morning and guests enjoyed a variety of fillings in their breakfast treats!

As the evenings get lighter more and more visitors to La Rosière are sitting out on the balconies and terraces and truly enjoying the view of the whole Tarentaise valley whilst listening to the Après-ski bands in bars and cafes along the main High St in the village.

The fresh snow from a week ago has made skiing on both sides of the border a delight for everyone – all runs are superbly pisted and you surely cannot you beat the sound of freshly waxed skis and boards on squeaky snow?!

Predominantly sunny days are forecast for next week with daytime temperatures hovering around 0°C degrees, perfect for taking full advantage of the recent fresh snow and enjoying those long, lazy lunches on sunkissed restaurant terraces.

French and English half term holidays come to an end this week and a few of the almost busy main chairlifts will be quieter once again.  As always though, with 150kms of easily accessible skiing the slopes remain uncrowded – perfect!

Snow depth at the top of the ski area:   190cm on the Col de la Traversette

Snow depth in resort:                                               60cm in resort

Date and amount  of last snowfall:                       8cm on 28th Feb – yesterday!

The fresh snow from earlier in the week has been plenty for the pisteurs to work with, creating perfect corduroy-esque runs.  Combined with the clear visibility, these are proving to be the perfect conditions for our young Sprites & Spritelets!

The extra powder at the top of red runs such as Chamois & Marmottes has provided an extra challenge for the intermediate skier, while the expert off piste skiers & boarders are making the most of the fresh powder.

The next few days are set to bring a mixture of light snow showers and good visibility, with temperatures remaining below zero.  Similar conditions are expected across the border link in La Thuile.

The kicker at the foot of Tetras is primed and ready for Wednesday’s Big Air competition, when the resort’s finest freestyle skiers & boarders will be showing off their best tricks.   Meanwhile, the following day’s Birthday Cup sees some of the top racers from the local ski schools & bars go head to head.

La Rosiere FranceSnow depth at the top of ski area:          190cm on the Col de la Traversette

Snow depth in resort:                                   50cm in resort

The clouds which brought yesterday’s fresh snow have cleared to leave the perfect combination of sunshine and powder.

While the majority of pistes have been immaculately pisted, some of the trickier runs have deliberately been left untouched to provide a challenge for the more advanced skier.

With the French schools on half term this week, the resort has still managed to retain its calm, laid back atmosphere, although there have been reports of waits of up to 30 seconds for some of the busier chairlifts!

The first part of the weekend is set to see more of the clear skies and sunshine we are experiencing today, while over 10cm of snow is expected on Saturday night, carrying on into Sunday morning, providing plenty of fresh powder for our guests arriving in resort on Sunday.

There are plenty of extra events being organised in resort for half term.  For those looking to advance their freestyle skills, there is an open jib session on Tuesday, with a chance the following day to watch some of the resort’s more experienced skiers and boarders show off their best tricks.  For those feeling less energetic, there are ice sculpting demonstrations, a tour of the resort by torchlight and a visit to the snow canon engine room.

Snowing now, 5cm so far!

Sunday brought smiles all round with the arrival of about 25cms of new snowfall above 1300m.  The snow started at 4.00am as the first transfer coach left for Geneva and continued for the next 36hrs and La Rosiere has been turned back into the most beautiful winter wonderland – this couldn’t have been better timing for the half-term holiday!  The fresh powder is particularly welcome in La Rosiere.

Further light snowfall is predicted for the remainder of this week interspersed with periods of sunny weather too. Snowing at the moment!

The resort is buzzing with families from all over Europe as they take a well-earned half term break from school.  Following on from the ESF’s impressive weekly torchlight descent and fireworks last night, the Ski Club of La Rosière are staging Big Air tomorrow evening – a fantastic freestyle show and the “Birthday Cup” race is being run on Thursday by the ESF to further celebrate the resort’s 50th anniversary – everyone is welcome to take part if they feel up to it!

Finally, on Saturday England play France at Twickenham in the Rugby Six Nations tournament, so the bars with live TV will be packed – need we say more!
