Chalet Hotel Sapiniere, ChamonixSnow depth at the top of the ski area:  190cm at the top of Grand Montet

The pistes remain in good condition; well groomed and well covered. As the day progresses the best skiing is to be had on Grand Montet, where it is slightly more protected from the conditions, and the Point de Vue at the top remains Chamonixs’ best run.

A couple of websites are actually predicting some snow tomorrow, with as much as 10cm possibly falling over 24 hours. Otherwise the weather continues to treat us all to some fantastic goggle line tans.

The best skiing is to be found early in the morning, where well groomed pistes and quiet slopes greet those skiers who manage to get up for first lifts. The slopes on Grand Montets tend to be the best at the moment, with its North facing pistes protected from the bright sunshine.

Chalet Hotel Sapiniere, ChamonixSnow depth at the top of the ski area:   190cm at the top of Grand Montets

The pistes continue to have good coverage and are being perfectly groomed.. Early on they are beautifully bashed and presented, making for easy, effortless skiing. The Index from the top of Flegere is particularly nice, with a nice firm base with a sprinkling of loose powder on top at the right time of day.

Nothing but bright blue skies and warm, warm weather predicted for at least a week, keeping those fair weather skiers with big smiles on their faces.

The instructors of the ESF Argentiere ski school will be creating a magical torch lit display as they ski down the pistes of Les Chosalets. All children who have completed at least their 1st Star are invited to join them.

SkierSnow depth at the top of the ski area: 190cm at the top of Grand Montet

Approximately 55cm fell across Sunday 27th and Monday 28th February at the top of the hill, with around 20cm falling in town.

The recent snow fall has re-invigorated the pistes, meaning that plenty of good skiing is there to be had. The off piste is starting to become a bit tracked, but that does mean that you can follow the lines down to some areas that you might not otherwise discover. The Vallée Blanche is a prime example of this, with a few lines being put in to make the decent through the crevasses that much easier.

We are anticipating plenty of clear skies and bright sunshine over the next few days, with the possibility of some slight snow showers to keep things fresh.

This weekend in Chamonix and Les Houches there will be 3 days of festivities, exhibitions, workshops, conferences and shows to celebrate the Tibetan New Year, with the opportunity to try delicious Tibetan specialities and learn more about Tibetan culture.

Chalet Hotel Sapiniere, ChamonixSnow depth at top of ski area:     160cm at the top of Grand Montet

Another 3-4cm fell throughout yesterday, topping up the dump we had on Sunday and Monday.

Beautiful snow means beautiful skiing! Yesterday I spent the entire day in the off piste, bouncing around in lovely fresh untracked powder. For those after a more sedate time, the higher you go the better the snow, so check out the Index in Flegere for great snow conditions!

Bright and sunny for the next couple of days, then a large dump of snow should hopefully arrive on Saturday night and across Sunday. This weekend sees the return of the North Face Ski Challenge. This is the largest European freeride and freestyle competition for young free skiers between 12 and 20 years old. Since 2006 the competition has been held to find young talents in Europe and offer them the opportunity to find sponsors and be able to turn pro. It’s happening on Grand Montets on the 26th and 27th, so head on over to check it out.
