Couple SkingSnow depth at the top of the ski area:   140 cm on The Glacier de la Chiaupe

Snow depth in resort:          50 cm

Now in April, we are starting to see some of the spring like conditions that we would expect, however we’re not complaining! Glorious sunshine everyday and perfect visibility in which to enjoy the mountain.

To make the most of the fantastic sunshine (which seems never ending this season) we have been heading up high to the Glacier De La Chiaupe at 3417m. The views here are absolutely stunning, looking over the mountain peaks in the glorious sunshine.

The snow conditions are also better at the higher altitude of the Glacier, with lovely grippy powder snow.

Head to the ‘Glacier’ chairlift (past the ice grotto) – once at the top you can choose your pathway of descent back down according to your level and mood. Take the blue ‘Le Deversoir’ the red ‘Col’ or the black run in-between the two.  The La Combe run in the glacier is a narrow, but gentle red that we have been enjoying weaving down. This is a lovely long run which takes you back down to the Col De La Chiaupe at 2550m where you can get the cable car back down to access the rest of the resort or continue skiing at the Glacier down the two blues ‘La Frête’ and ‘Lanche Ronde’. The Chalet De Belllecote chairlift at the bottom of these runs is a lovely vintage old fashioned chairlift. The only chairlift not to have been modernised in La Plagne.

We like to follow this up by a gentle cruise down the red ‘Les Sources’ from Roche De Mio back into Belle Plagne which takes us past the snow park where it’s always good fun to watch the skiers and boarders try out their new tricks.

The Hotel Des Deux Domaines here in Belle Plagne is situated in a superb location on the L’arpette piste. This is a nice cruisy blue run home, and a perfect place to take your children and ski in the afternoon. There is also a few jumps and a big natural quarter pipe to hit on the way down, something for all the family to enjoy! The best bit about living on the piste is the Arpette restaurant situated just up the slope from the Hotel. They serve the best Vin Chaud in resort in my opinion, then only a one minute ski back. Perfect.

Belle PlagneSnow depth at the top of the ski area:  145cm on The Glacier de la Chiaupe

Snow depth in resort:  60cm

Recent snowfall has certainly helped the piste conditions, and with yet more warm weather we are feeling the benefit of fresh snow and sun drenched lunches.

The morning snow following the clear night skies is a joy and a sure bet for slightly quieter slopes being over to Montalbert where the lower level slopes are well covered and maintained with snow cannons.  The warm temperatures make for some lovely lunchtime stops with a wide variety of local cuisine on offer as well.

The higher level runs in the glacier area are proving to be a good challenge with the opportunity of reaching higher speeds for those who wish to do so. These runs offer a great chance to work on your tan whilst sailing down the variety of runs the Glacier has to offer.  Off to the sides of the piste there are shortcuts, small jumps and bumps, some very good fun to be had!

The Hotel Des Deux Domaines has the privilege of being in the sun a majority of the day with a great chance to relax on the balcony at the end of the day with a drink in hand with which to reflect on the day. Furthermore you may opt for a relaxing bathe in one of the outdoor hot tubs looking onto the Belle Plagne ski area.

We have also had the pleasure of hosting the World Cup Ski Freestyle Half Pipe event over the weekend and this along with a mini pipe is now open to the public for those who rise to the challenge!

Mostly sunny over the next few days with a couple of snow showers in the evenings

A very music themed week is planned for the La Plagne area with various bands performing in in Bellecote, Plagne Centre and Belle Plagne.

Snow depth at the top of the ski area:            175cm on The Glacier de la Chiaupe

Snow depth in resort:                                      70cm

Fresh snow again here in La Plagne, and still glorious sunshine, the perfect combination! Make the most of the sunshine today as we are expecting a big dump of snow of around 13cms! A small price to pay for powder snow.

I have been doing a small tour of La Plagne, starting off at the top of Roche De Mio. Take the long ‘Les Sources’ red route back down into Belle Plagne (the prettiest of the La Plagne Villages) and then into Bellecote to the Arpette chair. Ski down to the Bijolin chairlift up to the Dos Rond area above Montchavin and then past the Salla Chairlift to the Crozats chair. Once at the top, instead of going straight over the back take the left red run (Les Marmottes.) This starts off with a narrow flat pathway but then turns into a more challenging speedy run down to the Inversens chairlift. This then takes you back up to Roche De Mio which boasts some of the best views in resort, just in time for a lunch stop!

For those more ‘extreme’ skiers and snowboarders, there are two half pipes in Bellecote, one small and one super-pipe. The super-pipe is in perfect condition as it has just been used for the qualifiers for the X-Games in Tignes this week. However do try the smaller pipe first as this gives plenty of enjoyment with not being quite so scary!

On Thursday the 17th of March there is ‘Plagne happy day’ in Belle Plagne starting at 6.30pm, there will be fireworks, music and dancing at the bottom of the ski lifts

Snow depth at the top of the ski area:   140cm on The Glacier de la Chiaupe

Snow depth in resort:                                  70cm

The snow is soft and the pistes are well groomed by the piste bashers .They are truly making the most of the snow, in some places pulling it off the side of the mountain to  maintain the snow depth on the pistes.

To make the most of the fantastic sunshine (which seems never ending this season) we have been heading up high to the Glacier De La Chiaupe at 3417m. The views here are absolutely stunning, looking over the mountain peaks in the glorious sunshine(don’t forget your sun cream).

Head to the ‘Glacier’ chairlift (past the ice grotto) Once at the top you can choose your pathway of descent back down according to your level and mood. Take the blue ‘Le Deversoir’ the red ‘Col’ or the black run in-between the two.  The La Combe run in the glacier is a narrow, but gentle red that we have been enjoying weaving down. We like to follow this up by a gentle cruise down the red ‘Les Sources’ from Roche De Mio back into Belle Plagne which takes us past the snow park where it’s always good fun to watch the skiers and boarders try out their new tricks.

We are expecting 3cm of new snow on Sunday the 13th of March which is followed by clear blue sunshine skies.

As much fun as it was weaving and dodging the snake like formations of the local ski schools, we are looking forward to the slopes freeing up more as the French school holidays come to an end and the mountain becomes less busy.

La Plagne has recently held the half pipe qualifications in Bellecôte for the SFR Free skiing Tour which will take place later on in March.

SkierSnow depth at the top of the ski area: 160 cm on The Glacier de la Chiaupe

Snow depth in resort: 75cm

What a week! We really couldn’t ask for better conditions. With a total of 25cm of new snow over the last week, we really are being spoilt. Glorious sunshine, perfectly groomed pistes and ample of fresh new tracks to be made, it is clear to see why Belle Plagne ,part of the Paradiski area is also known as the ‘Dream resort’

The off-piste conditions are fantastic at the moment, the previously made tracks filled and topped up again for us to play in some more champagne powder!

As we are now half way through the season, I thought I had explored and skied all of the runs in La Plagne, but how wrong I was. Armed with a piste map I hit the slopes to find the pistes I had missed so far. I first headed over to Plan Centre and took the Becoin chairlift (the furthest lift away). Once at the top, don’t be put off by the drag lift in front of you. This leads to the red run Gavotte from Le Biolley at 2350m.This piste was heaven. Soft, powdery, grippy snow perfect for carving turns, with the whole piste to myself. Once over this side of the resort, try the black runs Les Étroits and Morbleu. These are untouched powder snow runs, with a sense of feeling that you are off-piste, whilst having the security of the piste markers.

From here head into the picturesque village of Montalbert. I explored a new route down on the blue runs ‘Cornegidduille’ and ‘Pravendue’ pistes, lovely long relaxing runs before a spot of lunch!

The snow is the best it has been all season, so really do make sure you wax those skis for optimum enjoyment!

We are expecting snowy showers (a maximum of 3cm) for the next two days until the skies brighten up with plenty of sunshine forecast from Sunday onwards and average temperatures of -4°c.

Come and see the La Plagne Marmot in Belle Plagne at 11.45 and Plagne Bellecôte at 12.30 today.

E.S.F are doing a lantern descent on the slopes tonight at 6.30pm starting from the Colosses piste.

Enjoy live music in Belle Plagne at the La Téte Inn with music from ‘So Saloon’ and ‘Shogun.’

Belle Plagne Snow Report, 25 Feb 2011

Friday, February 25th, 2011

With a dump of snow yesterday, we have more than enough snow to keep is occupied!  The sun is peaking over the mountains and we are expecting another sunny clear day.

The snow is light and fluffy and pure powder based so a joy to ski.  The snow conditions at the higher altitudes are just fabulous with the Glacier runs at the Aiguille Rouge a skiers dream.  Mogul hounds will enjoy the red run “Tuffes” from the top of the Col de la Chat.

A further 11cm of snow is due on Saturday morning.

Belle PlagneSnow depth at the top of the ski area:   115cm on The Glacier de la Chiaupe

Snow depth in resort:                                  45cm

Date and amount  of last snowfall:          5cm on Tuesday 15th February

% Runs open

As European half term arrives we have seen more visitors arrive on the slopes and can’t help but pick up on their contagious excitement. In fitting response to the new guests, we have received new snowfall.

Avoiding other skiers, we have had great pleasure this week cruising down the large and open undulating slopes of Les Inversens which make it one of the fastest runs in resort. As we return to the peak at the top of Roche De Mio, we are privy to breathtaking views which become greater as we near the top of the lift. By the time you reach the glacier on the Bellecôte lift, you feel just about ready to start making your own postcards.

For those of you who want a challenging ski, visit Morbleu. The gradient and moguls combined give what some skiers might call a rather unrelaxing ski; others might call exciting. If you prefer a rather more sedate ride down the mountain you can continue on down the scenic Montalbert run which takes you into the quaint village of Montalbert itself. Or maybe just skip the Morbleu and head down to Montalbert for a warming drink and to sample the local cuisine.

We are expecting 7cm of snow on Saturday; duly preparing us for next weeks skiing as temperatures finally reach a high of zero before dropping again at the start of next week.

Today and tomorrow there will be the 1st French ice climbing championships in La Plagne. And then on Tuesday we will be treated to the Quiksilver and Roxy radar; an event for children looking for the next big rider. Look out Kevin Rolland.
