Les Gets Snow Report 23 Mar 2012
The sun is upon us here in Les Gets but with such good snow throughout the season so far, all runs in resort remain open and amazingly we still have 2 metres of snow at the top of the Pointe. At the top of Nyon and Chamossiere the weather is staying cool and breezy and that is affecting the quality of the snow, powder runs can still be found of the back of both runs! Just yesterday I found a beautiful pillow drop down the side of the Aigle Rouge, it may not the softest powder I’ve ever found but its still knee deep and challenging.
The Mont Chery side of the mountain is often seen as the Canary mount in resort, when it loses its powers and the lifties shut it down we know that the snow is leaving us, luckily for us though the Mont Chery is still alive and well, with all runs staying open. With this we look to the next few weeks with wonderful excitement as the snow sticks around and the sun beams down on us giving us a winter holiday twinned with a summer.
Temperatures are set to stay just above freezing level for the next three days and with wind levels staying low to zero the riding conditions warm, its T-shirt time!! But with some snow forecast on Sunday night we don’t mind one bit!
We are all very excited at the moment because the Ebouelle Contest is currently on. Part of it is the urban art competition and all around the village there are huge boards where teams are spraying their best designs hoping to beat the returning winners which have their board next to the Irish Pub. The jib session is also on today down at the bottom of the Chavannes pistes where they have installed some rails next to the big jump. We also have live DJ sets and music from midday. Then tomorrow the much anticipated Rock the Pistes festival starts kicking off in Les Gets with a concert at the Folliets chair lift with Louis Bertignac.
