Les Gets snow report 08.01.2013
Here is the latest snow report from our team in Les Gets
The snow at the top of the Les Gets ski area is around 160cm deep, with temperatures up there reaching 5degrees, and northerly winds at 15km/h. Down in resort we’ve still got about 55cm of snow, so plenty for those snowball fights. Temperature in the village is about -2degrees at the moment, and will be hitting 4degrees at midday, with wind speeds at5km/h in a north easterly direction.
The last snow fall in resort was last week on the 2/01/13, we received a good layer of fresh powder and should be expecting more later this week.
We’ve still got nearly 100% of runs open in the Les Gets ski are with 68 out of the total of 69 runs open at the moment. As for the lifts in resort, all 51 lifts are currently open, which is a first for the season, with 49 being the most that has been open so far.
Today is going to be perfectly clear all day and well into the night. We’re expecting some clouds to move in on Wednesday afternoon, which will stay for the next few days and bring us some snow on Thursday and Friday, giving us an extra 14cm of snow over the two days. Over the next three days temperatures will get as high as 3degrees, and hit a low of -13, which means it’s getting slightly colder than it has been recently. Wind chill will be at it’s coldest on Wednesday night dropping down to -16degrees.
Ski conditions are still good here in Les Gets. We’ve got plenty of snow up on the mountains, and the piste bashers and snow cannons have been working their magic too to make sure it stays perfect for those of you heading up. The weather has been great for skiing, with fantastic sunshine meaning that the visibility is excellent up on the mountains. Over on Mont Chery, apart from the fantastic views of the area from the top, the skiing is brilliant at the moment, with still only a handful of skiers and boarders venturing up at any one time, so if you fancy the mountain more or less to yourself this is definitely the place to head. Although the Chavannes side of the mountain may have been skied more, the slopes are still in excellent conditions and there are some great runs down into the Les Gets bowl over this side that have been excellent to ski over the past few days.
This week in resort Colin is running a guided tour of his micro brewery down at the Irish bar, experiencing the only beers brewed in Les Gets. On Thursday this week the museum of mechanical music have a number of events on, including a detailed visit of the Automatic Carillion. And up on the Grand Cry ski run, The Highlanders and Indians are having a treasure hunt on Friday, for any children over 3years. With orthodox Christmas and Russian new year falling this week, Les Gets are running a number of activities and entertainments themed around Russia through out the week.
