Courchevel snow report 05/02/2013
Here is the latest snow report from our team in Courchevel
There is 227cm of snow at the top of the Courchevel ski area with 130cm in resort. There was a light dusting of snow yesterday with around 4cm falling.
95 of the 119 ski runs are open in Courchevel with 55 of the 71 lifts open also.
Now for the latest installment from our skier poet Jack Pinnock
Having been skiing solidly for almost two months and approaching the midpoint of the season, most of us reps are feeling quite good about our skiing ability. On piste, off piste, in the park – wherever we have chosen to focus our time, technical rewards are being reaped. Bearing this is mind, when somebody infinitely more experienced than me asked if I would like to ski Couchevel’s Grand Couloir, I said ‘sure, no problem’. Well… This was a whole different ball game. I didn’t really understand what I was letting myself in for when we set off down the icy ledged traverse, a couple of emergency stops (falling over) prevented me from falling into Meribel, a real possibility. The track then opened out into the gorge where I thought my skiing woes were over (and to be fair, I was in no physical danger now, surrounded by the softest of powder). Descending the majority of the Couloir on my face though was a real dent to any pride or false sense of skiing surety that may have coalesced since December, melting away like snow in the April sun. Talking of snow, there is a storm coming: fingers crossed it moves on in the night and leaves us only with the predicted 25cm of powder…
