Ski Austria - Known as much for the traditional charm of its resorts and the warmth of its welcome as for its great skiing, Austria occupies a unique place in skiers’ hearts. Once sampled, the exuberance and gusto of Austrian après-ski is never forgotten, whether it’s traditional favourites like tobogganing, or sampling the new era of super-cool pubs and clubs.
In the Arlberg ski area, comprising St Anton, Lech, St Christoph and Zürs, Austria has its own truly world-class superstar - an area which any remotely serious skier or boarder would place high up in their ‘World Top Ten’. Its 440kms of marked runs are divided between 260kms of well-groomed pistes, whilst the remaining 180kms are left unpisted, as ‘deep snow runs’, making this a mecca for those who like a challenge.
The Ski Areas
Obergurgl is a less ‘macho’ proposition altogether, with an emphasis on miles and miles of glorious wide open ‘cruising’ pistes, plus an efficient, modern lift system, and one of the finest selections of mountain restaurants you will find anywhere.
The Resorts
St Anton is not only Austria’s biggest ski mecca, but is also known as the country’s après-ski capital. Bars like the Krazy Kangeruh or the Mooserwirt have an international reputation, whilst bars and clubs like the Piccadilly and the Kandahar are growing steadily in popularity.
Across the other side of the Arlberg ski area, Lech is a picture-postcard-perfect Austrian village, in a spectacularly beuatiful location. In contrast to St Anton, it provides a more relaxed and refined atmosphere, although still with plenty of choice of evening entertainment.
Obergurgl rejoices in the title of Austria’s highest village, set at 1,930m at the end of the picturesque Ötz Valley, and offers typically Tyrolean style and character. Our chalet here is right on the slopes and close to the main Festkogel gondola lift and ski-school meeting-place, making this an ultra-convenient choice for your Obergurgl holiday.
Catered Chalets
Chalets in Austria tend to be former guest-houses, and as such are generally spacious and comfortably furnished, with most - if not all - bedrooms having their own private en suite bathroom facilities. Our range runs from smaller chalets sleeping eight, ideal for groups booking together, up to larger properties for up to 40 guests, and all sizes in between.
Catered Chalet Hotels
A relatively recent development in Austria, Chalet Hotels have quickly proved extremely popular, and we have two of the best, in prestigious Lech on the mighty Arlberg ski area - one of which has its own indoor swimming-pool and sauna to help you relax after a hard day on the slopes.
