British Snowsports Fund
Here at Ski total we are proud to be participating in raising funds to help support Britain’s elite athletes and future wintersports Olympians by supporting the British SnowSports Fund.
The British Snowsports Fund helps support the UK’s Olympic wintersport stars of the future. All the income that is generated goes into helping these athletes reach their full potential. From grass root level participation with young children showing potential, all the way through to elite athletes training for the Winter Olympics. When you contribute to the British Snowsports Fund you’re be directly helping both the current and future generations of British snowsport Athletes.
What’s the aim of the Fund?
British Snowsports Fund’s aim is to generate income from recreational snowsport enthusiasts with the goal of increasing participation at a grass root level, and to elevate the performance of elite British snowsport athletes. Success at the top level is shown to drive public interest in a sport, and the aim is that by investing in this way, they will help increase participation levels and bring further success to skiing and snowboarding.
What will the funds be spent on?
The funds will be spent in three key areas:
- Supporting our elite athletes e.g providing our Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls with the necessary extra financial aid.
- Nurturing talent e.g. providing bursaries to increase access to academies for talented skiers and snowboarders.
- Aiding participation at a grassroots level e.g. by supporting initiatives to encourage and drive more schools to introduce pupils to snowsports.
Who are some of their athletes?
Big name snowsport athletes like professional snowboarders Jamie Nicholls and Billy Morgan receive funding from the government via UK Sport to support their coaching programmes. br>
The British Snowsports Fund will help support athletes who don’t yet receive this level of funding, such as:
Cara is the current British Ladies Alpine Champion and is now within the top 150 grand slalom athletes in the world. Getting access to the right coaching programmes so Clara can work within the best team possible is crucial in her run up to PyeongChang 2018.
Lloyd is currently ranked 25th in the world in aerial skiing. Based on his great form over the last season we have high hopes that Lloyd can make the top 10 at the PyeongChang games, with a chance that he will medal. Extra support would ensure Lloyd attends a full season of competitions which would help in his bid to qualify for the winter Olympic games.
Emily is currently ranked 25th in the world in ski cross despite the fact she only returned from serious injury last year and has to work numerous jobs in order to help fund herself. We’d like to be able to offer funding so Emily can fulfil her full potential and prepare for PyeongChang 2018 in the best possible way.
