Avoriaz snow report 26.12.2012

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Avoriaz

There is still a big 200cm worth of snow at the top of the ski area. Snow in the resort also remains impressive at 160cm. 26th December (yesterday) 10cm of snow fell throughout the night.

33 of the lifts are open throughout resort and 86% of the alpine ski area is now open.

A heavy fall of snow, heaviest during Thursday morning. Temperatures will be below freezing (max 0°C on Thu morning, min -15°C on Wed afternoon). Winds decreasing (fresh winds from the West on Thursday afternoon, calm by Friday morning).

Since the huge snowfall last week conditions have been holding up perfectly so far. Visibility massively improved over the weekend, and with no snowfall skiing was a delight. Clouds have descended slightly today, although down in the linderet valley amongst the trees it is definitely worth getting out for. The pistes are quiet and were treated to a substantial snowfall last night making the powder fantastic.

The resort is in the full throws of Christmas spirit! Horse and carts jingle throughout the streets, lights hang from the huge pine trees, and Christmas music rings out from all the bars, shops and restaurants. Over the next week the town is looking forward to torch lit descents, fireworks, lantern releases and a lights display in the centre of town!
