Alpe d’Huez snow report 18.12.2012

Here is the latest snow report from our team in Alpe d’Huez

There is an amazing 260cm of snow at the top of the Alpe d’Huez ski area with 130cm in resort! There has been around 18 inches of snow in the last 24 hours and it’s still coming down. After the downfall of snow today we are expecting clear blue skies tomorrow.

There are 57 runs open being served by 26 out of 62 lifts.

The ski conditions in a word, fantastic. It’s never been warm enough to melt the snow so there’s a fine dusting of powder on top of soft runs. The skiing at low level towards the Oz Valley is particularly good as the temperature is just right. Generally the Alpe d’Huez sun is generally strong enough to burn through the clouds for a few hours each day to produce the rare phenomenon of skiing fresh snow in sunshine.

The end of the world is coming up on the 21st. We are hoping that the maelstrom deposits some good snow before we all plunge into the rapture. The live après bands at Smithy’s and Underground will be playing as the world goes down.
